Questions & Answers

What if I have a similar model with a Geforce mx250 video card (A515-54G-75K6)? Can I upgrade to one with Geforce gtx?

The only upgrade you can make is to the hard drive and the RAM.

Is it possible to connect a second monitor to it?

It goes without saying. to the InnoView monitor or the portable monitor, and they work fine together.

I am having difficulty upgrading the ram to 20 GB on my Acer Aspire 5 a515-55-56vk -- and only the a515-55-56v -- any other version will not work -- a lot of conflicting information!!?

On my Acer Aspire 5 A515-55-56VK, there was only one RAM slot, and it was occupied by an 8 GB module. Although I replaced the old RAM module with a 16 GB RAM module from the same manufacturer, there was no onboard RAM - the maximum amount of RAM was 16 GB, not 20 GB as claimed in the specs. I found only one RAM slot in my Acer Aspire 5 A515-55-56VK, which had an 8 GB module in it. I am more than satisfied with 16 GB, but 20 GB... But I have no luck with the 20 GB... The 16 GB RAM module was replaced with another one from the same manufacturer, however there is no 4 GB onboard RAM - the maximum memory I have is 16 GB, not 20 GB as stated in the specifications. Although my system provides more than sufficient memory for my needs, the maximum storage capacity is inaccurate at 20 GB.

Turning off the S mode makes sense, but why? Does this happen because it won't allow apps other than Microsoft to be downloaded?

In my opinion, you might as well just buy a Macbook, since the ecosystem is set up that way (although there are workarounds, like Homebrew). PS I've been diagnosed with a mental illness, and I'm not limited to the Microsoft Store. If you want to have a closed ecosystem, you might as well buy a Macbook (though there are workarounds.) PS I have mental illness, and I have sense enough not to limit myself to just thinking of It's in my experience that most "my people" are much more intelligent than the majority of you "normies". I hope this does not offend you!

That's perfect for me - I hope it remains so

Compared to the many CPU/models I've seen, this particular computer gets few reviews As of today, I have been using this laptop at home for about a week now, which means I leave it plugged in on my desk and have it running for more than eight hours a day instead of turning it off There are several reviews that cite poor fan noise and low sound quality as issues with the i5-10210, but my experience with the i5-1035G1 has been excellent Sometimes, the fan starts while I'm not using the laptop heavily, but it doesn't keep running long and isn't noisy On my laptop, I watch workout videos and am very happy with the quality of the sound and the video My old laptop was much heavier, clunkier, and slower than this one, so my standards are pretty low now because I'm getting rid of it Nevertheless, it seems great for what I want it to do, which is largely to help me work from home I have only been using the system for a week, so if anything goes horribly wrong, my review will be updated Wishing you all the best *****NEW**November Despite its age, this laptop is still very good Nothing to worry about!

This is a great value that can be made even better

During the first two weeks of its use, this has proven successfully to be my third Acer laptop (other two are still functional) The performance on WiFi 6 is very good, and using 5 GHz I am getting remarkably fast speeds As far as battery life is concerned, so far it is good In comparison to my Aspire E laptop, the keys are slimmer, the number pad keys are smaller, and the functions keys are smaller, but there is nice tactile feedback on the keys, and the back light is also nice Getting accurate information about configuration is tough, though It came with only one 8 GB memory stick, rather than a 4 + 4 configuration, as some other reviews have noted As of the time of writing, this laptop has a maximum RAM of 16 GB and can only be used with Kingston memory (per my testing and Acer's tests) It's a bit of a bummer that that happened The Acer laptops allow you to add a second SDD (I selected the WD Blue because it was cheaper) which is always a welcome feature I found this more challenging than using my Aspire E laptops but still managed to figure it out Rather than removing the screw holding the Intel chip down, you need to remove the pin so that the connector can fully sit

I am confused by the memory upgrade specs for this laptop
4/5

A new computer for my work from home setup, and this laptop was a good choice since it had speed, anti-theft, fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard, and was upgradeable - I went from an M to a Q There is a standard 256 GB SSD drive, but I also added a 1 TB SATA SSD for my data since there is an expansion slot, and the system comes with a bracket and ribbon cable to make the installation quick and easy I am disappointed to see that the specs promise that the system will only support a maximum of 20 GB of RAM and that the system has 4 GB of onboard RAM, with the rest of the RAM installed in an expansion slot that is upgradeable When I replaced my 8 GB module with a 16 GB one, that is the maximum amount of RAM I can use with the system But it did come with 8 GB of RAM, so all of that was in the expansion slot 16 GB is more than sufficient for my purposes, so it's still a great system Simply put, the published specifications make it seem like you can run the system with more RAM than the system can handle

I only lasted a couple months with the Motherboard
3/5

I then had to send it to Acer to get a replacement for $50 Acer laptops are good, but you can do better by paying for the protection plan or buying a better laptop than this one if you plan on buying one on Amazon The future of this thing is a total mystery to me

My home actually has two of these As my one son really liked his brothers computer, he bought one for himself just as well It has a lighted keyboard which they love, making it perfect for gaming

So far, it has really captured my attention
4/5

(I believe we all know) that my old computer uses Windows 7 an old or unsupported version of operating system I have been looking for a new computer with Windows 10 and I liked the specs on the Acer Aspire 5 I find backlit keyboards to be a dealbreaker, and it has one of those It would be nice if the time-out feature could be disabled; Whenever I hit an especially fast key/spacebar, it goes dark very quickly (which is irritating), but I can just hit another key to bring it back to life It would be nice to be able to adjust the brightness of the backlit keyboard, but it is not an option here I would prefer to have the keyboard remain lit and to adjust the brightness (as with my older laptop), but it is not an option Having a numbers pad and the feel of the keyboard is something I really like I like the size of the screen very much The quality of the image is good It is not difficult to find things on Windows 10 and I've had a lot of fun setting up my system the way I want it In the camera settings, I discovered that the default is "Allow apps to access your camera", which I have disabled There is a nice sound coming from the internal speakers Right now I am listening to music on my computer and I don't feel the need to plug in my external speakers to amplify the sound My laptops are always plugged in since I am always near a power source I cannot comment on battery life at this time In general, I purchase devices that are expected to last quite a long time (my last laptop had been around for 8 years), and I intend to use this one for quite some time It should be more than adequate for my personal needs

I like the laptop a lot
5/5

A new laptop was needed, and compared to my old Dell’s 2 year old model, this is so much better The performance was very smooth and fast I love the feel and look of it, and it's very easy to set up, even if you're not a computer geek The build quality is excellent and it will last a long time I have so far been very happy with it The one thing I would wish for is a built-in DVD/CD drive They are getting harder and harder to come by in laptops in this price range If you want a nice laptop at a reasonable price, then this is the one you should consider
