Questions & Answers

Why is Amazon's price so high while Best Buy's is half the price?

$128 was the price I paid. Don't buy it from those price gougers; it'll set you back $99!

Is audio included in the cam link hdmi, or is it just video from the camera?

Hi, on OBS, you must set up an audio capture device by going to sources, clicking ADD, and then going to Audio Input Device, where your camera should be listed! Also, as others have mentioned, make sure your camera can output audio via HDMI.

Is the sound quality of this import the same when viewed through an HDMI cable?

It certainly does, Josh!br>br> If you have any additional questions, please contact us at: br>br> help. elgato. com

Will the Sony a9 be compatible with this?

Make sure you have the correct wires and that the Sony A9 camera is set to continuous shooting mode. We recommend confirming compatibility with the camera's manufacturer as well.

1) MISTAKEN advertising 2) NO OFFLOADING OF WORK FROM THE LAPTOP 1) Their website claims that when paired with the Canon T7i (Canon 800D), this device will provide "clean HDMI," but this is simply not the case
3/5

Or, at the very least, the requirements should be stated more clearly. The ONLY WAY to avoid on-the-job injuries is to avoid on-the-job injuries altogether. The purpose of the screen menu items / focus boxes on the video output is to turn off the camera's autofocus. (However, who will do so? Sure, Elgato's website lists the Canon T7i as "clean HDMI" compatible, but they should add an asterisk to remind people that this also means turning off autofocus. br>br>It is useless to me for this reason alone. My intention was to use it to do a YouTube livestream. But I don't want an autofocus box following my face around the entire time, and I can't turn it off because I'm a one-person show. At home, a man runs a shop and creates YouTube videos. br>br>2) There is an alternative (that does not require the use of the Cam Link device! ) to live stream on YouTube using video from your DSLR and a computer (in my case, a laptop). It's called "Camera Live" on the Mac, and it's a free program. Connecting your camera to your laptop requires a USB cable. The video is then streamed using Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). It performs admirably. EXCEPT that my laptop's fan was spinning like crazy while I was live streaming, because I assume this operation is very CPU intensive. br>br>I figured that getting this Elgato Cam Link 4k device would offload the necessary computing to the device itself. so that my laptop's fan didn't spin as fast as it did during the live stream (which was also recorded in audio) BUT. THESE ARE NOT THE FACTS. Yeah, the Cam Link 4k device was getting a little warm. My laptop's fan, however, continued to spin nonstop. (It also helps that I have a quick MacBook Pro. ) ) Sooo. the story's underlying message Simply use a USB cable to connect your devices. As I previously stated, I use the Camera Live software. You can get a completely clean video output even if you don't have any Heads Up Display turned on. The menu items on the screen are visible. And no matter what you do, your laptop's CPU fan will spin out of control. br>br>Save your money by not purchasing this device. br>br>I also contacted Elgato's customer service to inquire about a refund, but they declined. They're not interested in assisting me. Despite the fact that their table of compatible cameras on their website was (in my opinion) quite misleading and bordering on false advertising. If you have another DSLR with clean HDMI output, the first issue I mentioned will not be an issue for you.

Every flaw on my face can now be seen in high definition and in real time: I should probably start by saying that I stream on Twitch, and I wanted to use my Nikon D5200 DSLR camera, which has been collecting dust in a corner for the past few months
5/5

I don't use it for Zoom or Skype meetings, but I have used it for a single Discord video call. For reference, I'll include the specifications of my PC at the end of this review. br>br>I chose the CamLink because a couple of my streaming friends use it as well, and I figured it would be the best option since they know a lot more than I do about what the best hardware is for streaming. br>br>It truly is a plug-and-play system. With my Nikon, I had no problems getting it to work. I have, however, flashed custom firmware to my Nikon D5200 that disables the auto shutoff timer. If you're not comfortable modding your camera (assuming there is modded firmware that can bypass your camera's auto shutoff feature), I'd recommend looking for a camera that has the option to disable auto shutoff out of the box if money isn't an issue. br>br>The SLOBS (StreamLabs OBS) integration is fantastic. I have no problems using the CamLink 4K alongside my Elgato 4k60 PRO, and I can switch between PC and console game scenes without the CamLink lagging. Overall, I am pleased with the Elgato CamLink 4k and would recommend it to a friend. Frequently failed due to overheating - There are two of them
3/5

Instead, go for the Pengo. TL; It gets too hot. It is overpriced. Don't throw money away; Instead, for a third of the price, get the Pengo HDMI grabber and get native USB support. To start up, plug in the C connector. br>br>It's a pity. Elgato is a company from which I've purchased products for years, but it's unlikely that I'll continue to do so. I expected consistent quality from Cam Link 4K after purchasing it on the advice of a consultant, as I had with their other products, such as EyeTV, which I've used for years. br>br>This product falls far short of their expectations; its main flaw is that it overheats frequently, causing the feed from my camera to black out. This isn't something you want to happen in the middle of a live event. It happened on a regular basis. So, thinking I'd gotten a bad one, I returned it for a replacement. The second, on the other hand, did exactly the same. Failed every time right out of the gate. I also don't require 4K resolution. For me, 1080p is sufficient. Since we're all sending video streams to web services that can barely deliver 720p - I'm not sure I know anyone among my peers who does. So the Pengo HDMI capture device is ideal; it's half the price and doesn't require a USB 3 to USB C adapter, and it works with my Mac Mini. Following the back-to-back sessions, I can't help but touch the Pengo every now and then to see if it's warm, and it's always as cool as a cucumber, despite the Cam Link 4K failures. I've been using it for over 5 months and have yet to encounter any issues.

This is an excellent item for creating live content
5/5

This does exactly what it says it will. Make sure you read Elgato's camera compatible list thoroughly; if it says the community has said it works, MAKE SURE you do your research first, as it may work but not in the way you intended. I bought a camera to go with it, but even after tweaking it, it would go into sleep mode after 30 minutes. Not Elgato s fault. I was lucky enough to be able to return the camera and get a 100% supported one but you might not be as lucky as you might not be a

If you have a 100% compatible camera but you are having issues capturing the video you may have an overloaded USB channel and need to remove other%.
