Questions & Answers

mac?

A slew of ridiculous responses! Idiots! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes On my old Mac Pro 2009, one of these works, but I believe it required removing the black bezel on the front of the drive in order for it to work with the "stick your tongue out" mac keyboard commands. I'm not sure if my 2008 optical drive was a sata or an IDE drive. If it's SATA, then yes, it'll work there as well, but you'll have to remove the bezel (which pretty much snaps off). In terms of other mac flavors, I'm completely oblivious to what's going on.

Is it possible to use this to install a new operating system (Windows 7)?

Yes! You can simply set your Bios to (DVD or CD) as "first boot," then turn it on, open the drive, and load the CD "OS" (Windows/Linux) of your choice. I hope this information is useful.

Is it possible to transfer VHS movies to this device without using a computer?

As Paul O. previously stated, "No," he said. This is just a DVD player - The hardware is all that is required. Normally, a computer would be in charge of it. The computer would then process the information from your VHS player and send it to this drive; you'll also need software (a program) to convert the format.

CABLES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE
3/5

It is missing the SATA DATA and SATA POWER cables. The modular power supply should have included a SATA POWER cable. For this reason, I never discard any extra parts. The optical drive came with a drivers disc and the drive itself, but you'll need an extra SATA DATA cable to connect it to the motherboard. You'd think they'd mention whether or not the drive came with any cables. br>I can't tell you if it works or not until the cables arrive, which will take a few days.

There are no issues
5/5

Despite the fact that DVDs are becoming increasingly obsolete, I thought it would be a good idea to include one in my PC build. Advantages: br>br>
- There isn't much to say about it; it works flawlessly and there are no complaints. br>br>Cons:
- This product is pretty straight forward, using one SATA data connector and one SATA power connector. br>br>It can get REALLY loud at times, but it's not a big deal. br>br> I was able to use it without issue. All you have to do now is lock it in place and connect the cables.

For precise CD rips, this is an excellent drive
5/5

I've had this drive for three years and it's been a reliable drive; some may argue that CDs are going the way of the dodo, but I'll continue to use them as long as CDs are manufactured. As a result, I find it difficult to trust online stores that sell "Lossless" versions because I prefer to rip the disc myself. br>br>I've got it all set up- Exact Audio Copy 1 is the best way to get started. 3 to create FLAC files from lossless copies of my CDs. This is the (DRW- According to AccurateRip, 24B1ST i) has a read offset of 6. For precise CD ripping, go to www. com. br>br>As far as DVD burning/writing goes, I've never used it, so I can't speak to its effectiveness on this drive; however, when it comes to CD ripping, it's been nothing short of a joy to use, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is new to or experienced with the process.

works, but not as well as the one it's supposed to replace; Some old CDs are still not being read
3/5

If you're buying to replace a dead drive, that's fine; if you're buying to replace a drive that can't read certain discs, that's a different story. CDs that have seen better days - in my case, old CDs that have seen better days. Take a look at what I've done before: br>br>I purchased this drive to replace an LG "Super Multi" DVD Rewriter that was installed internally. GH24Ns70. The reason for this is that Some old music CDs weren't being read by the LG's "Super Multi" feature. However, br>br> An old HP's DVD/CD drive, as well as an old CD/DVD USB drive, can read most of these old music CDs. I connected it to the Windows 7 system for which I purchased this replacement in order to read those "unreadable" CDs. The issue with using a USB drive is that ripping a music CD can be extremely slow. br>br>I installed this Asus drive today, and it doesn't read some old music CDs - as previously stated. The other drives were able to read all but one of these old CDs. The new Asus drive burned a CD and read a Linux installation DVD that I had burned the day before. So far, everything appears to be in order, with the exception of not being able to read some old CDs. br>br>However, the one it took the place of was just as bad. br>br>Something I discovered while converting my music CDs to flac files: Even if my drives are unable to read/rip a CD or some of the files on a CD, I can sometimes create an image file (iso, nrg if using Nero, etc. ) of the CD, burn it to a blank CD, and then rip it to flac files. Except for one or two badly scratched CDs, this method has worked with all of them. Please don't inquire as to why this is the case. I'm not sure what I'm saying. You may be able to rip directly from the image file using the right software (VLC, perhaps). br>br>Lesson learned. Nothing should be thrown away. In the meantime, br>br> Having a backup is always a good idea.

The majority of the 50 or so failures were due to bad discs
3/5

As a result, when the burner began to fail. OK. This review is based on my experience with the second item I purchased. The first one, from a few years ago, was "fantastic. " I successfully burned over (I'm not exaggerating) 2,000 CDs/DVDs. The majority of the 50 or so failures were due to bad discs. As a result, when the burner began to fail, I purchased a new one. It will need to be replaced in a few months because it is so bad. I've had at least 10 bad burns in the last two weeks, all of which I attribute to the burner. Because the last one was so good, I can only assume that this one is a dud, so don't dismiss it so quickly. This one, however, is extremely loud and takes an hour or more to burn, if it burns at all. The first burner was quiet and burned in the appropriate amount of time, depending on whether the disc was a CD or a DVD and the functions selected. I've been happy with DVDFAB for DVD burning since 2003, and they update monthly, so I know it's not the program's fault. If you buy one of these burners, pay attention to the instructions and listen to them carefully before your warranty expires. After the warranty period had expired, mine began to fail. Please wait at least a few months after you've had good or bad results with one of these burners before giving it a review. To a "thinking" person, reviews from people who praise something because it arrived quickly or in good condition, or any number of inane comments that reveal nothing about the product's quality, are of no use. What should I be looking for to replace it right now? Good luck with your hunt.

It's a DVD-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM- Thanks to Amazon for stepping up and providing a working drive, RW works perfectly
4/5

You can't get much better for $22 than this optical drive. br>My previous Asus DVD-ROM drive was a disappointment. RW finally gave up the ghost after four years of faithful service, so I ordered this (OEM) Asus DVD-RW. Optical RW. It was effective for about 20 days before it began to malfunction. I called Amazon to explain how the new Asus DVD-RW player works. When the RW I purchased stopped working, I fully expected to be forced to return a $19. 50 DVD- RW, I don't think it's worth my time to reply. br>Amazon has risen to the occasion! When (Asus didn't want to do it! Thanks to Amazon's sales and tech teams for allowing me to get a new drive without having to send the old one back to them, I was able to get a replacement drive that works perfectly. This was above and beyond customer service, which is why I prefer to shop at Amazon's online store. br>Sincerely, Steven Levelbr>br>I considered purchasing a Plextor, but the reviews for the three units I read about were generally negative, and the price was twice or close to twice that of an Asus.
