Product Description

In summary, Sawbird GOES is a self-contained LNA module for the purpose of capturing beautiful weather images provided by
This module has two ultra-low noise amplifier modules (all in one package), sandwiched around a high-performance, custom designed SAW filter centered at 1688 MHz.
The Sawbird GOES can be powered in three different ways either from the bias tee, from the on-board microUSB socket, or from a DC barrel connector with the USB to DC connector adapter included.
We recommend using NESDR SMArTee XTR v2 (available on Amazon under item ID B06Y1GN5RP) with it, as although it is compatible with most SDRs. If you're looking for a version with a higher gain and lower noise, consider SAWbird+ GOES (available on Amazon, item ID B07GBFNV1H).
Included is a free male SMA to male SMA adapter and a cable adapter from USB to DC barrel connector. Nooelec offers 1 year full warranty and support straight from the manufacturer!

Questions & Answers

The bias t does not need to be used. Plugged in with a USB cable, it powers up. If you hook up the dongle, the light will come on. Can you tell me what's up?

A DC block could be required between the SDR and SAWbird if not powered via bias tee, depending on the exact setup. If you want to emulate this, you need to put a high-quality capacitor in series with the signal line. Since this is a bit too complicated for this page, feel free to contact our support team at support.nooelec.com. Please contact us. Thanks a lot!

In order to power a sawbird to receive power from a smartee sdr, I must Is the sawbird capable of filtering dc to the Can I use the dc block that's already included in the dc converter?

According to what I've understood, you're wondering if the DC is passed through to the antenna side of the SAWbird? If that's what you meant, there is no DC passed through to the antenna side. We recommend that you contact our support team directly at support. nooelec if you need assistance. Please contact us. Thanks a lot!

Selected User Reviews For Nooelec SAWbird GOES - Premium Dual Ultra-Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) & Saw Filter Module for NOAA (GOES/LRIT/HRIT/HRPT) Applications. 1688MHz Center Frequency

The instructions in the package would have made it a lot more useful! My current collection of GOES SAWbirds number five and I find them to be very refreshing
4/5

A program I wrote to receive GOES GPS data takes advantage of GOES geostationary satellites. It is free (see "GRB Imager for Windows" in the links). Despite the fact that SAWbirds don't normally work well, I think reception would be impossible As well as receiving "HRIT", you can also use these. Although I totally agree with the previous reviewer (JohnG) that we should have some sort of marking on the case to tell which side is DC+Output and which side is Input, or perhaps even an instruction sheet to show which side is which. In my case, I had to open it up to see how it worked! Having a very small piece of paper explaining this should be a simple matter for Nooelec to add on the DC+Output side. If the product included a small, simple instructional sheet, I would better rate it as a 5 star product instead of a In case it is not clear, the side with the LED is the DC+Output side. In my case, I use 5V from a bias tee at the computer to power mine. This power adapter is marked '+' in the center and as '-' on the left The shield (outer conductor) is the only one. As well, the metal case is very nice and gives the electronics better protection. However, it is not waterproof, and you cannot leave it on your satellite dish without protecting it from the elements. The rain got inside when I tried that. I will add some waterproof sealant to make it waterproof.

I hope the review will help people make an informed choice and bridge the gap until an instruction sheet is released.

If you're using an SDRPlay RSP, this is the one you need
5/5

A RSP is a good idea if you plan on using one That's the model of SAWBIRD you're looking for. There is another model which costs $2 more and looks very similar to the NESDR Smartee and Smartee xtr, so that would be the model you want if you're using them. How do they differ? Compared to the other model that boasts 30db gain, this one requires only 30 ma

SDRPlay RSP-2000 claims 20 db gain and requires a mere 30 ma

I think 2 will only deliver 100 or 150 megabytes per month A crowbar is used The current from the NESDR SMARTee does not provide enough current for the 30 db SAWBIRD. Make sure you get the right combination of SDR and SAWBIRD.

Neither a manual nor specifications are included! In addition to what was shown in the item picture, a cable with a USB connector on one end and a barrel connector of an unknown size on the other was included
3/5

There is no information about the power supply of this cable, so one could assume it is some unknown type of power supply. *The shipment did not contain any instructions or diagrams. It is not evident which SMA connector is the input and which output on the unit. Would anyone be able to answer If you respond with "I assume or it should be", I would appreciate it if you avoided using that. It would be best if you didn't try to answer if you don't know. There is only one SMA connector on the antenna that is an input. Two questions 1. If the unit is powered via USB, will a DC voltage be present on either SMA Port. 2. When using the included power adapter cable, what is the ideal input voltage and what is the polarity. 3. I have a question about the optimum input voltage for the USB port. I have another question about what is the maximum temperature range the unit will work at. The unit was missing this information, which would have been nice.

In addition to nooelec, I'm a big fan of the company
5/5

Well, I guess I am a big fan of Nooelec. The Nooelec items I have bought so far have all been good. It was a bit difficult to find the in and out, but after a quick internet search I managed to do so.
