Questions & Answers

A friend of mine has one, and she loves what does the remote control have to do with it? Where does it get its power from? How are you?

In its early days, the device was used as a TV The difference between a 'real' software defined radio and a little remote control is (1) the software it originally came with is no longer used, and (2) the little remote is unaware of the software you have in mind for your It appears that there are plenty of people who are very clever Somebody may even be gazing at the remote right now, thinking to themselves, 'maybe I can lace the signals into this new code to do the job if I decode the signals this remote sends. I'm doing something. I like it. I will provide a shorter answer, not meant to be snarky In the absence of appropriate code, the can fits in the garbage. It's my fault. I wish you the best of

I'm trying to decide between this and the NooElec NESDR Nano. Have any of you compared the two?

There is little difference in the NooElec NESDR. It uses the same chipset but comes It appears to work the same way as the larger ones on the R820T rather than the E4000 on these smaller versions (nano). A difference in tuning coverage exists between versions of the software running on the R820T and versions with the E4000 CPU. Neither of these devices are bad to use as SDRs. Make sure you buy an MCX adapter if you want to connect an external antenna. It may also be necessary to use a BNC to SMA or PL259 converter.

What are the chances of this working with tvheadend and Raspberry Pi?

The TVheadend no longer works with rtl-streaming services because it does not understand how to use them I am Dr. It was just earlier today that I tried it. In order to use this with Kodi, you will have to use the only plugin that supports rtl-c With the recent Kodi gui API, SDR is not working. I am not familiar with all of the software that can be used with TV. Trying to get TV on the Pi is still a work in progress for me.

Tracking planes with this is a breeze
5/5

The following are my reasons for purchasing this product My name is A. J. and I'm not a professional, so I'm just looking for an internet advertising firm It is the first time I have used Flightradar24's platform, which allows me to track planes near an airport, since I live close to one and am curious about what planes are flying overhead. I could just use a flight tracking website, but I am a fan of DIY and wanted to build something of my own. The following is how it works I find it to work perfectly for my purposes As soon as I connected my Raspberry Pi 3 to the flightradar24 app, I was able to easily follow the instructions In a couple of minutes I was tracking planes and contributing by uploading my data to their website. * They also offer a free Flightradar24 Business subscription, which I think is awesome. mentioned, I'm not a professional, so I can't give you a technical review, but I can say that I was able to track planes from 30 miles away (and even 40 miles as close to a window as I could get).

You should have USB 2 installed
3/5

To become a computer guru you need a score of 0 on the SAT. If you want to install NooElec, don't follow the instructions at the NooElec email link. Scroll down and you'll find their support page at the bottom of the link. It is significantly easier to follow these instructions. You may also want to read the NESDR installation FAQ. I could have saved a lot of time and hassle if I had done this instead of installing on Interface The provided instructions link did not clearly specify which Interface to install it on first, so I downloaded it onto Interface 1 initially, rendering my device Uninstalling/reinstalling did not resolve the issue, so more troubleshooting was done. The Windows troubleshooting program claimed the USB port was incompatible with the device. It is better to use a USB 2. 0 port instead of a USB 3. 0 port. The USB 0 port is working, but the USB 2 port is not. There is no solution I could find online, and I have searched multiple sites. It was not helpful to call the NooElec customer service The support staff told me that because I had not discussed my operating environment, they could not assist me. I wish you the best of I have tried everything, but none of it has worked, and customer service has been ineffective.

This is a really neat It reminds me how exciting radio listening was for me as a kid who had no money to buy any equipment when I was 19 and I knew nothing about radio
5/5

I've been a ham for over fifty years and I enjoy this little gadget. My favorite part is that being able to listen to the local repeaters, watch the weather broadcast, and tune in aircraft traffic at the local airport is so easy that it takes just a couple clicks of the There is nothing like SDRSharp, and the companion book, "The Hobbyist's Guide to the RTL-Sharp" is well done as well The SDR makes it clear how the electronics work and how to use the device efficiently. The VHF/UHF spectrum will be a new frontier for me, and making a QFH antenna for NOAA weather satellite image reception will give me the chance to explore part of the spectrum I haven't before. The reason I have always had a passion for radio is this reason.

For people who love radio, this is a great geeky toy
4/5

Having bought this little guy I thought it would be a nice way to check out some of the local RF scene without putting a lot of money down. All of that and more is true. I have a few minor nits to mention The software that comes with the device isn't particularly intuitive to use I encountered a bit of difficulty getting SDR Sharp set up. The antenna connector is quite small If the unit had a better antenna than the stock one, I'm sure it would be much more useful, but I hope you can find an adapter to convert the antenna port to a more common type such as BNC or SO-type. The problems described above are neither a deal breaker nor a barrier to success, so if you approach it as an experiment, you'll be satisfied with the results. There is one disappointment, however The units recommended on the unitrunker website are not sufficient if you want to spy on the emergency services of your area with Trunkrunker and they use newer trunked multiplexing 800MHz systems. Here are the two items you will need There will be one channel for monitoring the control channel and one for monitoring the trunked frequencies individually. It didn't occur to me when I bought the first one, and I'm waiting for the right opportunity to buy my second one so I can pick up where I left off in that regard. When you pair two of these devices together with Unitrunker software, you can have a police scanner and a fire scanner for very little money. Other than those things, however, this receiver is a very good choice. Using the ADS- I was able to spy on it You can access B aircraft location reports, tune local radio stations, listen to a few Ham radio transmissions (the quality was not as good, so I think the antenna is to blame), and much more with the included antenna and some freeware you can download online. Let me be clear (SDR Sharp, Cubic SDR, HDSDR, etc. ) An antenna provided with this product is truly cheesy, and it is a poor substitute for a more substantial and homemade antenna. The signal is enough to prove the thing works, but it's not enough to make the whole thing work. **If you've done your research, you will know that these units were originally designed to receive digital television signals from Europe, but that they have been "hacked" via software to become a more universal set-top box It is a receiver for the spectrum. don't benefit you at all. By the way, here's the specification for television. Therefore, they include a credit-card payment option If you get a remote control the size of a credit card, throw it away immediately There is no point in wasting time on In other words, this is not a simple completed product that's ready to use on your computer To get the maximum potential out of it, you need to do some tinkering. In my previous post, I mentioned that I was having trouble getting some of the freeware software to run on Windows 10 The difficulties I encountered were driver problems, which were all solved with the assistance of Dr. Google, my research assistant. The Radio Amateur Team is offering you the chance to play with this device if you are an experienced radio amateur. It might take you a while to get things setup if you're more like me, a radio amateur n00b. This is what makes it so much.

Alternative for ADS-B at a low cost A little B Weather and Traffic, rounded out with a bit of RFI
3/5

I connected the device via the OTG cable to my Android Phablet, and then I launched Avare ADS It was able to track aircraft flying over 1090MHz within seconds after setting up tracking by HIZ LLC. On the 978MHz band, it was equally easy to receive data in flight. On the aircraft radio band, there are RFIs, but only when the software interacts with the receiver, which may involve increasing the squelch setting. This may cloud or completely nullify It is possible to hear the RFI at as low as 118 kHz. 075MHz is the peak frequency, with 122 MHz being the peak frequency. In addition to 7 and 8 An important factor seems to be the orientation of the equipment at 075MHz. A 3 Star rating is given, and I would have given it a 4 Star rating if it hadn't been for the RFI. ADS-B is still a valuable service at the incredible price point With Avare, you can see the weather and traffic.
