I have been experimenting with it. My Plex server runs on a Win10 I5 computer. My recording seems to have a pixelation problem. All features appear to work, but it seems like pixelation occurs during recordings. Hauppauge's native software does not suffer from this problem. All drivers are current on my computer. Based on the Plex forums, this seems to be a problem in To find out whether the problem persists, I've considered switching to a Linux platform. Plex is good, but for now it is not a great replacement for PVR functions with this tuner and it's not a Plex replacement for Plex. Plex supports the PCI version of the quad tuner. A date change on 7/5/2020 has been made. I'm happy to see that the picture quality has now reached the same level as the PCI products, so I am very pleased that Hauppauge has released updated drivers and WinTV software. We have now achieved the perfect picture quality. There is no longer any difference between this USB version and the current one, and that's amazing! Hauppauge raised the standards of their USB products to the same level as those of their PCI products, which I really appreciate. With the continued upgrading of the WinTV product and driver by Huappauge, performance and picture quality have been enhanced. There is no device that is as good as Hauppauge's TV signal as well as the fact that they keep releasing software updates to improve the product every month. As a long-time customer of Hauppauge, I have purchased many products and was looking at the PCI version versus the USB version of this product, initially not a fan of the product. This is a very significant statement since I expected the same quality from the USB version of the hardware when it was originally released due to the quality of the PCI version. This is a great improvement since it allows me to capture TV images in the same or higher quality as I was able to achieve with the PCI version over As for the PCI version versus the USB version, that's a huge deal and I'd rather have the USB The people at Hauppauge deserve a pat on the back! Update to 8/8/2020 I'm updating my score from 1/5 stars to 4/5 stars as the poor quality of video I had before is no longer an issue. I could be seeing the source video as what I was seeing. (This is a very long review, but I hope it'll help other people as this is a new product for Hauppauge with little information on the internet about this device. ) I've been a Hauppauge customer My fascination with them began with the Hauppauge TV Tuner for Windows Media Center, and I have purchased a number of their internal TV tuners as the technology has evolved. My decision to go with this product has to do with the fact that I have downsized my PCs into the smallest form factor that I am comfortable with, which now means that I have PCs that do not have the space for a PCI Express TV tuner card. The Hauppauge USB TV tuner has provided me with a much better experience than with my previous Hauppauge USB TV tuner with my previous attempts to downsize my PC, so I am happy to report that this time There have been a few bumps in the road. This is an excellent device that comes in a nice white plastic case that is very high-quality, so my installation experience has been a pleasant one. Having spent a lot of time with Windows Media Center (which worked flawlessly with Hauppauge hardware) I couldn't hold out much longer as Media Center has been incompatible with Windows 10 since Windows 8 was released. As a result of my upgrade, I've used Hauppauge's WinTV software as I haven't had the time to find any other solution. As well as the fact that there was no integrated TV guide, and if the schedule time format changed, I had to manually adjust the recording time if I didn't want to miss some of the show. A few random problems have occurred with the WinTV included version that have caused freezing of the picture (but not the audio) when Windows programs have popped up on top of the live TV display or when I have attempted to pause and resume live television. In darker scenes, it could well be that the image is out of focus and grainy depending on the source signal, or it might have a lot of video compression artifacts because of the source signal.
I say major because I'm used to having the best picture quality, and I'm used to it being bigger, better, and more vibrant This is the There are internal TV cards in Hauppauge devices that can provide air TV. Hauppauge's internal PCI express cards seem to pass clean/clear raw video directly to the display, so it comes as a surprise that there is no mention of video compression on the product page. As a child, I built my own PVR many times (many times! their software, EPGs, and various tuners (from Snapstream). My computer had a dual tuner Hauppauge board and two DVICO Fusion HDTV USB tuners up until a week ago. Having failed the internal tuner board on the Hauppauge and having been frequently frustrated with the DVICOs, I decided to look for another option. The USB 3 port was connected to the device. The only way I could get it to work was to place my antenna in the attic of my house. I wasn't happy with the way things turned out. In its simplest form, I just wanted the driver to load, without all of There was no way to make the new 4 tuner box Once my laptop was installed, I went through the WinTV registration and start-up process (there is a question about the activation code at the end of the installation process). I loaded each tuned correctly, and I did the channel scan as well. All 4 were successfully set up and I started beyond TV on all of them. It has been almost a week since I started using the new system and I have not encountered any problems. Despite my limited experience, I can see and hear the image and audio perfectly. As the company claims, Hauppauge passes the demodulated signal straight to the hard drive without any compression or other modifications (this is what they should be doing). I am happy to report that Beyond TV is controlling the tuners and the Snapstream EPG is functioning. My favorite part of the new 4 tuner box is the remote control. Installing the program could have been easier and not requiring me to jump through hoops in order to get the activation code would have been nice. It wasn't important to me that WinTV software was included I just wanted the hardware. In the future, PVR builders will have to come up with a different software solution because Beyond TV is no longer manufactured or supported. My only comment on this is that I have no experience with Hauppauge WinTV, so I am unable to comment. So far, I have only evaluated the 4 tuner hardware, and I can report that it works perfectly once installed.
