The fit of the rubber gasket on the top edges of the phone is very poor, and there is a visible gap between the edge of the phone and the gasket, which is not Otterbox's best. I have the Commuter on several of my iPhones, and the difference in build quality is noticeable. The gasket will come loose with a simple push of a finger due to the tight fit. Despite wearing a glass screen protector on almost all of my iPhones, my last iPhone X ended up cracking its screen because the gasket flexed enough upon impact, allowing the phone's edge to hit the surface. To demonstrate what I'm talking about, I made a video showing how the Commuter fits on my iPhone X, XR, 11, 6 Plus, and SE, all with a screen protector except the 6 Plus. The Commuter for the X was the worst of them all. From my iPhone 6 to my iPhone 11 to my Galaxy S8, I've relied on the Otterbox Commuter, but it appears that I'll be switching to a different brand for the iPhone X.
Since March, I've been using this phone case. I throw it down from a 5-foot ladder. The entire back is now shattered, despite being 6 feet off the ground. Don't believe the case's claim of "Otterbox Certified Drop Protection," because it didn't protect my phone at all. I've always trusted Otterbox with my previous devices, but I no longer do, and I recommend that anyone looking for a case look elsewhere.
I purchased this case because I had one similar to it for my iPhone 6s and it worked perfectly with a new baby. Nothing ever happened when my baby would throw it or drop it. For years, I didn't have a single crack on my face. I just got the new iPhone XS two weeks ago, and the screen is already cracked after only a few days of use with this case. This case isn't as good as the older version of the same model because it doesn't come up as high around the sides of the screen, limiting the amount of protection it can provide. I'm not sure why Otter Box changed their commuter design, but I'm returning it and paying to have my screen repaired: (((((.
For the first few months, this was an excellent case. After that, the case started to sag. Not at all what I had hoped for.
I had a commuter when I first bought my X, so this is an honest review. This is either a rip-off or a forgery. The TPU has a different feel to it and does not fit well with the phone. I've purchased all of my Otter cases from Verizon, and they've all fit perfectly. This is a farce and a waste of my time; my phone will be lucky if it stays in its case while in my pocket. This review is genuine, so don't waste your time reading it.
The corner of my phone cracked after I dropped it while walking my dog. A few months later, I dropped my phone again, and the entire screen was cracked. I was hesitant to purchase this because it does not provide the same level of protection as other otter box cases. The case should have a bit more of a border around it to protect the screen and edges.
I've owned a number of otter box cases in the past, and this one appears to be a knockoff. I'm not sure what it can protect because it's so thin; I'd be afraid to drop my phone in it. The rubber feels cheesy, the plastic appears to be too gleaming, and everything about this case is off. It was also delivered in a plain carton box with no otter box plastic cover. I intend to return.
Although the case is sleek and elegant, its durability disappointed me. Within a few months, the rubber in the top right corner had come loose. When I accidentally dropped my phone, the loose rubber in that corner shattered my screen. Fortunately, OtterBox was kind enough to send me a replacement without any problems, and my phone was still covered by warranty. Buy from the official website to save money, and get the Defender series for extra protection.
