So, in response to your question, I decided to give it a shot on the GoPro Hero 8 Black, and it 'didn't' work. On the Hero 7, I'm guessing the results would be the same. br>This device (Osmo Pocket 3.) is a good example of this. 5mm Adapter) is only compatible with certain products and, as far as I'm aware, only with the Osmo Pocket.

I really like the Osmo Pocket, and the sound quality isn't bad right out of the box, but I wanted to improve it for my videos. The only issue with this product is that it was labeled by DJI as a solution for attaching an external mic. They fail to inform you that it can only be used with;

You also can't use any wireless microphones with the Osmo Pocket. 'br>br>Unless you're willing to spend an extra $25-$50, you're out of luck. You might be better off using the sound that comes out of the box and punching it up in post or simply using another source for sound and the Pocket for video quality if you spend $30 on the adapter and another $200 or so on one of the better quality microphones listed above.
With my DJI Osmo Pocket, it works perfectly. There haven't been any problems thus far.
