Questions & Answers

Is it possible to attach this rail to a c-frame? Is there a way to make a 1/4 hole in a 100 handle? For my monitor with sr cage, I'm looking for a better attachment system. ?

Yes, but using two 1/4" screws to prevent rotation is preferable. A longer quick release rail could be used for added stability if your cage has attachment points (or can be added).

Is it possible to use this with Tilta's bmpcc6k cage?

Hello, could you please specify where you want to attach the cage to? We can better respond to your questions if we know which scenes will be used. Thank you very much:

Is it possible to use this with Tilta's bmpcc6k cage?

This is a NATO-style rail that can be used with any NATO-style device; I have it on my cage, and it slides on and locks when I want to put my handle on. There's no reason why you couldn't use this for your BMD Cage, in my opinion. The screws that come with the kit are standard.

Selected User Reviews For SMALLRIG Quick Release Safety Rail 4cm 1.57 Inches Long with 1/4'' Screws - 1409

Spending less and accomplishing more A word of caution first: br>I do not own shares in SmallRig, and I am not receiving any kickbacks or other benefits from the company in exchange for making the following comment
5/5

I'm just a cameraman who's worked in broadcast television for over 28 years and has used a lot of equipment in that time, some of which worked, some of which didn't, and some of which should not have worked but did. My observations below are merely personal observations that I'd like to share with others. br>br>Being a cameraman in today's world is not an easy job, especially with the wide range of cameras available in a variety of form factors. In order to make these cameras usable on any given day, thousands of dollars in "add ons" are required. br>The days of shoulder-mounted 2/3" EFP style cameras that were ready to use right out of the box are long gone. Now- It's a bare-bones camera brain these days, with a slew of add-ons required to transform it from tripod to hand-held, jib, Gimbal, and drone. Not to mention, if you're a freelancer like me, who can use any and every form factored camera on the market in any given month, the need to adapt your add-ons to each of these units can be not only a pain but also ridiculously expensive. br>Like everyone else, I bought cheese plates, rods, ball heads, and other accessories from all the usual market places. And cringing at the cost of what is sometimes just a hunk of aluminum [sorry, aluminum for the'mericans] with a few threaded holes drilled into it. Until I came across SmallRig, that is. br>br>Now that I've collected a number of their various products, I can confidently say that this is a company that gets it right. Their products are extremely well-made, well-designed with the operator in mind, and you can use them anywhere and on any camera [which is a particular annoyance for me with some companies who only want you to use theirs]. br>Now I see that the majority of their products are geared toward the DSLR market. I don't use DSLRs; instead, I shoot with Sony F5s, RED Epics, and Phantoms. And these parts work perfectly. br>I've had no problems mixing and matching nato rails and clamps with those from other, far more expensive manufacturers. There are no signs of stress or wear. A cheese plate, after all, can only take so much abuse. br>br>For some of the components, only time will tell if they'll hold up under heavy use, but based on how they feel, I believe they will.
note: [In January of 2015, I first used a SmallRig 15mm rod clamp. ] So far, so good]br>br>Are they as well-designed and manufactured as some of the more well-known brands? I'm not sure what I'm saying. I'm not a metallurgist, so I can't tell you what the components of the aluminum block are. I'm a director of photography who covers a wide range of subjects, from wildlife to adventure to reality and high-octane sports. I need to have faith that my equipment will be up to the task and will not require me to jury-rig my components with bungy cords or otherwise make my life difficult. br>However, only time will tell whether or not this is the case. And rest assured that if something goes wrong within reason, I'll keep you informed. br>br>I'm also practical; I don't want to spend a lot of money on a piece of overengineered metal that may only be used once every three weeks; it's simply not practical or sustainable in today's ever-changing camera design market. br>br>And this is where the best part of the story begins. The cost: SmallRig's equipment is reasonably priced for today's market. I understand how competitive the market is and what it takes to get this stuff out there in terms of design, engineering, and CNC machining. And these guys aren't shy when it comes to putting on a show. They've even offered to custom-make something for me if I need it. Those "other" manufacturers aren't likely to be as accommodating. br>br>At this point, I'll stop babbling. br>Their gear appeals to me. I like the way it's constructed and how it appears. It's priced in a way that I find appealing. I appreciate the way the company treats me as a customer. Time will tell if it can handle heavier workloads than the dslr world [which, to be honest, isn't all that different now-]. days]br>And, to be honest, even if a part did break, the price is so low that I could buy three of their items for one of their larger US competitors and use it in three different configurations on three different cameras if necessary. You see what I'm getting at. br>br>Not to mention, they're always willing to talk about any issues you might have. br>If you're looking to kit out your rig and want to use low-cost components, check out SmallRig. br>br>At this point, you can all go back to shopping; I'm going to step down from my soapbox.

The best investment you can make for your rig
5/5

The NATO riel is the best invention for jaulas. You can quickly and safely put on and take off your accessories. In a matter of seconds, I'll be able to remove the upper agarradera and replace it with a lateral. As you can see in the photo I added, it's either one or the other. br>br>It's extremely safe, and it comes in a variety of sizes depending on where you want to put it in the jaula and what accessories you want to use with it.

Picatinny/Weaver unit finders are compatible with this scope
3/5

When the camera is zoomed to 600mm and has a small FoV, I wanted to add a unit finder to the front of my SmallRig cage to aid in the identification of birds and celestial objects. Picatinny/Weaver compatibility is found in the unit finder. I got an astronomy foot to go under it, then an adapter to keep the foot in place. The finder was now far above the camera lens, and the red dot couldn't be adjusted far enough to align it. The unit finder fit perfectly on the 46mm Safety Rail that I attached to the front of the cheeseplate.

This isn't going to work because Smallrig made a mistake
3/5

Don't buy this because, for some reason, Smallrig screwed up recent versions of these and they're far too narrow to work with most nato clamps. I'm returning them and notifying Smallrig of the situation. The majority of Smallrig nato rails are barely wide enough to use with non-nato rails. Smallrig clamps are available, but this one is far too narrow. I have an older version of this part from March that is (barely) wide enough to use.

Rail width is too narrow
3/5

Don't waste your money on this one. Don't waste your money on this one. The width is too narrow for a NATO rail, and mating accessories will not grip it tightly. I have a number of Smallrig accessories, and the majority of them are of good quality, but there is one exception - It appears to be a tolerance problem in the manufacturing process. Returning to Amazon, I replaced it with a Zacuto rail, which was three times the price but had the correct dimensions.

As I've used my small rig more, As my small rig usage has increased, I've discovered that these connectors have become a necessity
5/5

Naturally, this expands my rig's capabilities, and these connectors are relatively inexpensive.

Compatibility across all platforms
5/5

While I prefer the slim version, it can only be used with Nato clamps from the SMALLRIG brand. These full-size nato rails are compatible with Smallrig, Tilta, and other brands.
