A 15-inch extension pole, a full tripod, and a tripod base from Ronin are what I use for my setup. For filming live events, I use this rig because I can attach the extension rod to the tripod and move it from tripod to Ronin with no problem. There's about 14 pounds of weight in my rig. I bought them about 4 or 5 months ago and they were very sturdy when I first got them, but after about 4 or 5 months of use, they have became I am looking for alternatives, as when you push down to release the device, it sometimes gets stuck both in the "closed" position as well as in the "open" position. The reason for this is that the top surface of the quick release base, on which the release plate sits, is exactly the same thickness as the distance of travel to release the base and can get caught under the bottom edge of the top surface. See I used this QR for about a week before it started sticking, which I replaced with a new one hoping it was just a bad unit, but after about 4 or 5 months of use all of them seem to be doing the same. It is worth adding that I only use these for about four to five hours a day for two days a week, so it isn't a lot of heavy use. They also seem to be getting a bit wobbly, they aren't as sturdy as they used to be.
I would be grateful if they sold just the base instead of the entire set, since half of the second set will never be used. TWO SHOULD BE PURCHASED.
I am guessing it worked for a few releases (5 perhaps), then it stuck. This now causes the lock to stick every time, and you need to force it to close. The same problem also seems to be happening to others, so I'll probably return these and opt for.
It is easy to use and very solid. There will be more than one of these in my future.
