I used it on a tablet that I wouldn't classify as ancient, but also wasn't the most recent or advanced. My phone is in the same boat. If the plug-ins are compatible with your phone, I'd say they're safe to use on a tablet computer. Previously, when you purchased a new phone, you had to purchase a new charger as well.

The ability to charge two portals at the same time

It's convenient to be able to portal and charge all at the same time. I can charge my phone and another device at the same time, and it appears that I charge fairly quickly.
