Questions & Answers

Is it possible to photograph both landscapes and portraits with it? Do you know how often I take both?

Yes,sure. It is lightweight and long enough to be useful. You can photograph both landscapes and portraits.

How can you shoot video smoothly if you don't have a handle?

It doesn't have a handle and has a fluid drift head. I used it to do some video panning (see my review) and pulled the camera around smoothly with the camera strap. br>br>This was my first time panning the camera, but you could easily make your own handle by attaching a clamp and a piece of rigging to the orange part of the head. If you already have the necessary equipment, this is a cost-effective way to add a video arm.

Is the head detachable, and does it come with a universal mounting system? If the plate is made of plastic, I'm willing to swap it out for a better head. ?

It is possible to take the head off. A plastic quick-release mechanism is also included. plate with a release The good news is that any Arca-compliant device will work with it. I didn't have any Swiss universal plates, so I just used the metal one that came with my camera.

Is it possible to use this as a rifle tripod?

It is not suitable for use as a rifle, in my opinion. I took this tripod to Somalia with a standard Leopold spotting scope and used it on a range of 800 meters. The spotting scope was at the limit of the tripod's capabilities, and if there was any wind, it would be useless for anything beyond 200 meters. For a camera, this is a tripod. For use with a spotting scope (extended to allow a 6 foot person to use it without having to kneel down), I give it a C. It would be more stable if it was shortened to a kneeling position or lower.

Geekoto, a well-known company, is up against a newcomer
5/5

I was skeptical at first because of the price, but I decided to give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised, and I compared this geekoto to an old Manfrotto 3001 and a Zomei Z818, which I own. A vevo and a manfrotto befree were also available for borrowing. I was rough on the geekoto, putting it through things I'd never do in real life; it's obviously not as tough as the 3001 manfrotto, but that's a beast that can also be used as a weapon. However, when compared to the competition, it shone. This all-purpose/travel tripod is made of aluminum and folds up easily. It's light, strong, and attractive. I used this baby as a hiking tool, and the monopod option is the best I've seen so far. This tripod has quickly become my favorite and most-used. My only criticism is that a lever/handle instead of a kbob on the ball head would have been preferable. This is a unit I strongly recommend. I am a professional photographer who works under the name EyeArts by Michael and focuses on lifestyle, architecture, urbanscapes, and fashion photography.

My Geekoto tripod arrived three days ago late in the day, which was more than I expected for the price
5/5

It was well packaged and includes a well-made carrying bag with a strap for days when you don't want to carry a camera bag. I didn't want to replace my Carbon Fiber MyFoto tripod, but I did want a light weight tripod for my wife, who seems to like it. I've been putting it through its paces for the past two days with my Nikon D800 and my wife's Nikon D90, using lenses ranging from 16mm to 600mm and exposures up to 8 seconds. On the plus side, there are a couple of things to consider:br>1. - Height and weight This tripod has a great height, actually higher than my Carbon Fiber tripod while weighing the same!
2. Even with my longest lens, the panoramic ball head was solidly built and did not creep. Even though I wasn't using my RRS pano head, I was able to create a 6-exposure sunrise panorama (shown in my examples) that stitched together very well. The fact that the head is Arca-shaped is also appealing to me. You can always use the included plate, which is Swiss compatible. If you're using the monopod, the center extender comes with a wrist strap, which is a handy feature.
3. This tripod's legs can be adjusted to three different angles, allowing you to keep it level in any situation. The legs extend using a snap locking mechanism, which I don't like, but I've been using a tripod since the late 1970s, so it's hard to break old habits! These are ideal for my wife because the leg can be locked in place or moved freely. It also comes with an allen wrench, which can be used to tighten any loose parts that may develop over time. br>4. The build quality is excellent, and it appears to be quite durable. I was glad it had a center hook below the central extender that I could hang my Mindshift Backpack from to help keep it steady when I was using a 600mm lens to photograph the Hawk at Sunset the night after it arrived in the desert evening winds.
5. Despite my best efforts, the monopod was not one of the features I tested. One leg unscrews from the base, and the center extender connects to the leg to create a monopod, which is a distinct advantage for some.
6. This tripod comes with a high-quality bag and a separate head mount cover to protect the tripod legs from scratches when folded. The color scheme is appealing, and the tripod appears to be well-made. br>Overall, I'd say the construction isn't as good as my Carbon Fiber tripod, but then again, neither is the price! I think the Geekoto tripod is a great deal for the price and accessories it comes with. With this review, I'm going to show you some of the photos I took with the Geekoto tripod. A Nikon D800 or Nikon D90 was used to create them. I'll also post a link to my review on Facebook and in the Photography Groups I'm a member of. I hope you've found this review to be informative.

The Geekoto soars to new levels
5/5

For the price, the 77-inch Geekoto tripod is quite versatile; I challenge you to find another tripod at that height for less than $100. Then it collapses and folds up to just 19 inches when you're ready to go. They have a very clever design on their hands. The ballhead is rated to support about 17 pounds, but I'm not sure I'd ever try to push it to that limit. The Geekoto is also my lightest 'premium' tripod, making it an excellent travel companion. You can also remove one of the legs and attach the ball head to it, creating an impromptu monopod (though you'll need to carry a screw mount). The Geekoto's final noteworthy feature is the ability to pull out the center column and shoot upsidedown to achieve the lowest possible angle. This is a very useful feature for any tripod. br>br>I can tell you a few things about the tripod after putting it through its paces in the field. To begin with, this tripod is EXTREMELY LARGE. It's advantageous to have such tall legs because they allow you to see above some things that would be in the way on a shorter tripod. For certain compositions, shooting upside down and low to the ground has also been a huge benefit. Try it out if you haven't already. If your camera has a flip-out screen, it will make things even easier. Given how tall the tripod is when fully extended, the Geekoto folds up exceptionally well. Two extending steps run down the center column, cramming in as much as they can. I've never used the Geekoto's monopod feature, but it might make a good defense stick when you're out in the woods (just a thought; I've never been in that situation). br>br>Here are a few drawbacks I discovered, and I'm only adding what I think would improve the experience: br>The legs aren't as sturdy as I'd like, and they're a little too thin for my taste. However, it also helps you lose weight, so this is more of a personal issue. br>br>When shooting, I usually use a variety of tripods (Star Tracker, Panorama Head, Standard Ball Head) depending on the situation. Because the Geekoto's ballhead has a different base plate than my other tripod, switching between them requires swapping base plates. A separate ballhead with the same base plate can be purchased to solve this problem. Again, this is a personal concern, but I felt it was important to bring up. Overall, the Geekoto 77-inch tripod is a welcome addition to the arsenal, and I enjoy using it whenever I get the chance. br>br>I'll try to keep updating the tripod photos as I get new ones. br>br>Thank you for taking the time to read this. (This is my very first Amazon review!) br>br>(This is my very first Amazon review! I'll keep track of new ones as they come in. ).
