Questions & Answers

Is there a calibration certificate included with this item?

Antonio, how are you? There is no certificate of calibration. The results are consistent with the various tests I've conducted, and the machine is extremely responsive; this isn't a precision instrument, but it sufficed for my purposes.

Is this effective in extremely bright (sunny) and low-light situations?

In extremely bright conditions, I believe the Extech LT40 LED responds admirably. The meter, in my opinion, is designed to read environmental conditions such as light entering a building or space, or even light coming in from the outside. There are better, but often more expensive, meters available for reading only the solar conditions (visible light) in an unobstructed open space or area. Nick M

Is it possible to use this as a camera?

No, not that I'm aware of. It's used to determine the wavelengths of light in specific spectral bands.

Is this going to be a 3000k measurement?

No, it doesn't keep track of color temperature.

Curmudgeon Neighbor Complains About Holiday Lighting - He was silenced as a result of this
5/5

I got an obnoxious email from a grumpy neighbor complaining about our Christmas lights on the porch. He speculated that we might be breaking the local light ordinance, and went on and on about how our lighting was obstructing his ability to stargaze and enjoy the night - In the midst of a bleak, snow-covered winter in Seattle. Uh- huh. I wanted to make sure we weren't in violation of the lighting ordinance before telling the geezer to stuff it, so I ordered this meter to check it out. I was pleased to learn that we were in complete compliance with local ordinance right out of the box (batteries included). It was well worth the money.

This meter is incredible
5/5

Choose the one with a sensor that is separated. This meter is incredible. It appears to be extremely accurate and of high quality. When you turn on the light sensor, the cap that covers it always reads 0 and calibrates. It's what I use to see how bright my grow lights are in a grow tent. I discovered that separating the sensor from the main module/screen made reading the lcd screen much easier. Because my grow plants are so close to the grow light, I can barely see the screen, and the light is so bright that even if I can see it, it's difficult to read it. A separate sensor simply gives you more reading options, but it would be less portable, as I understand it.

If something isn't broken, don't try to fix it
3/5

This light meter is the same model as the one used by the AHJ, so I bought it. The model I purchased differs slightly from the ones used by inspectors and electricians, and the difference was both unnecessary and inconvenient. They added a push button in the middle of the back of the meter body that allows the battery cover to slide off, so the light meter no longer sits flat on the ground. Aside from that, it's a decent meter at a reasonable cost.

It's something I'd buy again if the opportunity arose
5/5

The Extech LT40 LED Light Meter appears to be simple to use and provides accurate readings. I say reasonable because I don't have a good way of determining the meter's true accuracy, and the readings I get fall within a range of what I'd expect for common light sources. It's what I use for 10 foot-long readings. candles and lower, typically in the 0s 3 to 3. LED, induction, and metal halide lighting are all available in the 0 range. br>br>I took a few measurements in an office setting and compared the results to a lighting print of the area; my results were in the ballpark of what one would expect for an office setting, and they compared well to architectural lighting prints. br>br>The only drawback I've found so far is that the display isn't backlit, which makes it difficult to use in the dark environments I usually work in. In that case, I use the Hold feature and then read the display. Also, because the detector is permanently attached to the meter and isn't even rotatable, taking readings sometimes necessitates using the Hold feature if the meter needs to be turned away from me. br>br>I would buy this product again for the price and ease of use.

It is small and light
5/5

As a health inspector, I use them for restaurant inspections. I don't mind carrying it in my tool bag every day because it's small and light. It's a luxury item because most inspectors don't give a damn about proper lighting levels when there are so many facilities with dangerously low food temperatures. I mostly use it on new construction because it allows for more flexibility in making adjustments. It's quite effective. To begin reading, simply remove the protective black cover to reveal the white frosted dome.

There was no discernible blue wavelength detected
3/5

The meter is identical to a standard meter in terms of measurement. The white light that is not sensitive to the blue spectrum. The meter's sensitivity is low between 400 and 450 nanometers, with a peak at 550 nanometers. The false claims aren't worth it.

When it comes to lighting, it's very useful
5/5

We needed this meter to figure out what kind of lights we needed and how bright they should be in a new office we're building. br>It's a fantastic solution. It has yet to break, so it is a good buy in my opinion.

Light meter is good, but it isn't very accurate at low light levels
4/5

It's simple to use and appears to be accurate in normal lighting conditions. once the value was less than zero However, 5 foot candles appears to be incorrect (it should have read 0). 1 to 0. A 0 was read as 2 foot candles. ).
