Questions & Answers

Is video passthrough possible with this? Can I connect my vcr to the inputs and my hdmi tv to the outputs and watch what's on the tv while it's recording?

Yes, you can watch on a big screen with HDMI, which I purchased. Excellent quality and ease of use. br>br>Dw br>br>Dw br>br>Dw b

I can't read any media (usb ssd or sdxc card) from my Macbook Pro with Mojave because the device has been formatted. I can only read files with disk recovery?

We're currently working on a device bug that occurs when you format the device's card/drive and then try to read from your Mac. To fix this, first format your USB/SD card on your Mac, then insert it into your Video2Digital Converter (do not let the device format it). Here's how to format a USB or SD card on a Mac...br>1. What size USB drive is required for an 8mm x 120 conversion? How big is your file?

If my understanding of your question is correct, I converted a 2 hour 8mm tape to a 3GB MP4 file. So, if you need to convert 120 tapes, a 1TB hard drive should be more than enough. I hope this has provided you with a satisfactory response to your query.

Is the original tape erased during this process?

A VCR is needed to record with the device. This device records the tape in digital format, while the VCR simply plays it. I hope this information is useful.

The MP4 can be corrupted by the AutoStop feature, and it usually is
3/5

This is the version 2 unit, which is easy to set up right out of the box. I bought a ScanDisk 128GB Class 10 SD card, but I can't turn off the Auto Stop feature. This is a feature that allows the unit to automatically stop recording once it detects that there is no longer any video. The problem is that it is inaccurate, and it will stop recording but not properly close the MP4 file, resulting in a corrupted and unusable file. If you have a VHS tape with multiple segments that you have transferred or recorded, for example, On the same tape, there is a birthday party, a play, an outdoor scene, and so on. The unit may interpret the brief space between those recordings as a "stop," but because it isn't long enough, the file isn't properly closed, and it's like a speed bump. As a result, you convert a one-hour video to digital, then load your SD card onto your laptop, only to discover that the file is unreadable. Tech support is aware of the problem and has stated that a fix will not be available until spring, so you should sit in front of the video and watch it minute by minute, stopping recording when you see these pauses, which is obviously not an option. I had tapes with no other recordings on them that still had about 15 minutes left when I got to the end of the tape. There are 20 minutes left on the clock and no recordings have been made. When I tried to view the MP4 file on the unit or on my laptop, the Clear unit would automatically stop recording, but the MP4 file would not close properly, making it unreadable. I would not recommend purchasing this unit until the company is able to disable the automatic stop. By the way, this isn't the stop where you set the timer to stop after a certain number of minutes; rather, it's the automatic stop when the unit detects that there's nothing else to record.

It does exactly what it claims to do
5/5

I expected to have to write a negative review, but now I'm required to write a positive one. Everything seemed to work when I first got the product, but the voice quickly became out of sync, just like with other devices, even though I was using a brand new USB3 drive. I became enraged, thinking that "once again," I had been duped into purchasing a product that couldn't deliver on its promises. To cut a long story short, I emailed customer service, who quickly determined that, despite the fact that I had a new "thumb drive" with a high read speed, it had terrible write speeds (meaning the device couldn't keep up). I replaced it with an SD card I had on hand that had a reasonable write speed, and the problem was solved. Other questions were also answered by them. So now I have to say that they appear to be a very good and trustworthy company. They are open and honest about what this device can and cannot do in the product description. Take a look at the summary. Also, it appears that a lot of people are curious about where the tape goes - That's not the case! It simply CAPTURES the video and audio signal, either composite or S video and audio (red/white RCA connection). Follow the relatively simple instructions, and you will have good Mpeg4 files saved to the SD card or USB, which you can play on most modern devices. Once again, two thumbs up for excellent customer service and a product that delivers on its promises.

I'm not sure where to begin with this
5/5

It's beyond simple, and it's a great price. My cancer-stricken son stated that all he wanted for Christmas was to watch his childhood videos. VHS and 8mm tapes are among my collection. There are a lot of them. I had no idea where to start when he told me two weeks before Christmas. As a result, I began by watching them on television and recording them with my phone. It was difficult, exhausting, and of poor quality. My other son sent me a download link for software that I could purchase. I don't have the time to learn new software. I don't have the time to take them to a doctor's office. I didn't care about the cost, and I didn't care about the content of the tapes and videos, because I didn't know what was on them. So, as I was looking through the software and freaking out, I came across this. The reviews were positive, and it appeared to be a simple process. I received the item in the hopes that it would function properly, but I had no idea what I was doing. After some practice, I must say that this item was fantastic. I sat on the couch watching the videos and pressing the copy button to transfer them to my SD Card, which I emptied after about 30 minutes of video onto my laptop at a time. After that, there's a small portable VHS player. I got everything I desired - I used every second of free time I had. It was, however, incredibly simple. I created a channel on YouTube and uploaded all of the videos to it. After that, I filled in the blanks with content. The entire family has been keeping a close eye on the situation. He appeared to be overjoyed. This product is well worth your money! This was a fantastic purchase. I've informed a large number of people about this item. We were completely unaware that such a thing existed. Oh, and there was no need for me to make any changes! If I didn't get the copy right the first time, I simply rewound and started over. So easy! Thank you so much for making this product available; if you - The Purchaser - I could only see the joy and tears that this project brought us. Best wishes for the coming year!.
