Exactly what I needed. You will need this cable if you plan on using your Rode Mic with an iPhone. I am going to break down the cables that come with some of the mics. This cable has three rings instead of the two rings that come with the mics. The Gray head should be plugged into the iPhone, while the black one should be plugged into the microphone. There is no need for this cable it will record without it, but you may hear a hum or a pop from your audio if you just use the cable that came with the microphone. In addition, I wanted to let you know. When buying a Rode mic make sure it's from a reputable seller. It seems that there have been quite a few counterfeits of the real thing. The RODE microphone that I bought for my DSLR is great. Connecting the camera to it was made easy by the included cable. However, I needed to purchase an additional cable to connect my cell phone and the Using the cable directly with the device is perfectly fine, but I have a Y splitter cable for going with earphones as well. A Y splitter cable does not work when the mic cable is connected. This is what I would like to see. This is still a worthwhile purchase for me.
