Is this a multiode, or something else entirely? This particular shade of blue is a single mode color. Is it one of these?

They're multi-mode, to be sure. The color is deceiving, to say the least.

I'd buy it again because it works well

In a side-by-side faceplate, it worked almost perfectly. I had to trim the blue section to make it fit next to another, but I'm pleased with the result. I'm using it to connect my garage to the rest of the house. When I installed 100amp service in my garage, I ran two 30m Amazon Basics OM3 cables. Those cables terminate in a wall mount box, which is connected to my network switch (Ubiquity Unfi) via 3m om3 patch cables (also Amazon basics).

For rack applications, a well-designed solution is available. This coupler works well with a lot of the fiber racks we've recently installed. To simplify the presentation and functionality of the racks layout, couplers have become a standard for each rack installation.

Wall plates are ideal, but the patch panel may need to be trimmed

They function properly. If you're installing a patch panel, they won't be able to go side by side, so you'll have to do some trimming. They're great for wall plates.

Side tabs are obstructive

The tabs that stick out from each side wouldn't fit in the patch panel side-by-side, which is a problem. To make the connectors fit, I had to cut the tabs off of them. It's not a major issue.
