Male-specific- It's easy to lose a male cable connector, and replacing it is difficult/impossible
3/5

I bought two of these and have been pleased with them overall. One of the cables, however, was misplaced (the ability to attach the cable is misleading - It's simple to take off). Since then, I've purchased two different, highly rated male-oriented books. Although I have male USB plugs that fit, my MacBook can only read either disc if I use the original cable - As a result, I'm no longer able to connect both discs at the same time, and I don't see how I can get out of this bind. Furthermore, I am concerned that if the second cable is lost, all of my data will be lost. I'd never buy another one for this reason alone, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It also appears to be a male-dominated field. USB to USB Adapter c is supposed to work, but it does not. When these types of questions arise in the community, Jimmy D responds with simple responses that do not address the problem. I'm not sure what makes the supplied cables so special, but if you misplace them, you could lose access to your data, rendering the relatively expensive drive useless.

Seagate Barracuda is the hard drive used in the 4TB model
3/5

Everyone wants to know what brand of hard drive is in the 4 TB model, so I thought I'd ask. Over the years, I haven't had any issues with Seagate drives that I haven't had with other brands. But, after my daughter's Seagate external drive died three or four years ago and the company refused to honor the warranty, I swore I'd never buy another. I'm hoping things are looking up for them now. One thing that concerns me is that, unlike other Drive manufacturers, the product manual does not list the average time between failures. I wish they'd tell us what kind of hard drive is in their product and what brand it is.

For the past year, I've been using it on a regular basis
4/5

This is something I use on a daily basis. It's attached to my work surface, which I turn on and off on a daily basis. It does not run continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 7 run. I've read some complaints about how this stops working and people lose their data when they reinstall it. I was concerned, so I backed up my data on both my laptop and this external hard drive. However, I've had it for a year and have yet to experience any problems. br>Last week, when I turned on my laptop, I received a message that the OS was fixing errors on the drive; I let it finish, but I was no longer able to see my drive. br>I turned off the laptop, removed the hard drive, and then turned it back on. I connected to the same USB port and it still didn't recognize the drive, so I switched to a different USB port and the OS recognized it. I haven't had the problem since, but I haven't tried the other USB drive because I'm afraid it will fail. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," so I'm going to leave it alone for the time being. I'll be sure to update this review if it happens again. br>br>Just know that I haven't had an issue in over a year and a half, which I think is a good sign, so I'll keep supporting the product and keeping you informed. br>br>* June 6, 2020 - This has been dropping connection for the past month. It appears to be a USB cord, but I don't have one to test the theory. It behaves in the same way when connected to different USB ports. When it reconnects, it does so without issue some of the time, but it also gives me an "OS fixing error" other times. I'll update again once I replace the cord. But, for the time being, I'll leave it disconnected until I'm in desperate need of information, at which point I'll safely disconnect it. I don't want the drive to be messed up because of the constant connection loss. br>*9/1/20 - So it went on like this. I wouldn't even get close to it if it kept disconnecting and reconnecting, or disconnecting and not reconnecting. As a result, I resolved to purchase a new USB cable. This has helped to alleviate the problem for the most part. If I move it slowly enough, it will do it again. The internal connection, in my opinion, is too slack. However, it is now a very uncommon occurrence. I'll physically tighten it in the future, but for now, I'm done. After that, there will be no more updates.

Be cautious when purchasing something online
3/5

I placed an order for this and it arrived the next day- Without user instructions or a warranty card, Amazon graciously accepted my return and gave me a full refund. As a result, I placed a second order, which arrived the following day- I returned this one as well, as it was missing user instructions and a warranty card, and I received a full refund. I didn't do anything with this item other than take it out of the box, put it back in the box, and return it, so I can't comment on how well it works. Several reviewers have complained about the lack of a user manual and warranty card, indicating that the manufacturer has a quality control issue.

The computer couldn't find the disk, but customer service was able to assist me in determining why
5/5

You guys are incredible! This is the second time I've bought a drive that's exactly the same. My original drive was fine, but I needed a backup, so I ordered this, unboxed it the next day, plugged it in, and tried to change the format from FAT32 to Exfat (as instructed), but the disk vanished. I couldn't find it in My PC or Disk Management to start it up. br>I tried contacting customer service via Amazon messages to see if they could help. They contacted me via email within two hours, requesting that I call in, but I was not at my computer at the time. When I called, they said they were closing in 30 minutes and gave me his personal number to call when I got back to my office. br>I called in, and the tech (Mike) tried unsuccessfully to fix it. He apologized profusely, and we agreed that I would return the item and place an order for a replacement. br>After about 45 minutes (at 10:45 a. m. ), Mike called me back at 27 p. m. to say he'd figured out the problem. br>After ten minutes, the disk had been properly partitioned and initialized, and it worked flawlessly. br>br>I can't express how grateful I am to Mike for all of his assistance. Not only did he give me his personal phone number so I could call him after hours, but he also called me back and gave me the solution! br>br>Kudos to you guys; I'm blown away by your excellent customer service. br>br>THANK YOU!.

One flaw: it does exactly what it says it will
5/5

It works flawlessly with any computer I've connected it to, including Chromebooks, Dells, Macs, and more; it doesn't overheat, transfers data quickly, and is both impact and water resistant (accidents have proven both features). It's also fairly light, which I prefer because some of these drives can become quite heavy and inconvenient to transport. My only complaint is that the little clips that are supposed to hold the USB cable along the outside popped off and went missing after only a few days of use, and they didn't hold the cable in place very well to begin with. I'm thinking about getting another.
