Questions & Answers

What is the tbw (time difference between two points)?

*5 years or TBW (250 GB: Samsung website) 75 TBW; 1 TB (500 GB): 2/4 TB, 150 TBW: 300 TBW), whichever comes first.br>For the 500 GB SSD, this means that 150 terabytes can be written before the risk of failure increases. This is dependent on a number of factors, the most important of which is the amount of space available on the hard drive. If the drive is nearly full, the remaining free cells may be subjected to a lot of writing.

How should this be formatted and configured to function as a Macintosh boot drive?

It cannot be used as an external boot drive, even after reformatting as an OSX drive (it comes formatted for Windows); however, I used Drive Genius to format it as a "Bootwell" drive, and that seemed to enable it to be used as a boot drive. You will need to clone a current drive to the Samsung T5 if you want it to boot up with all the apps you previously had.

Is it possible to use this as an external backup drive, and is backup software included?

Password protection is not to be used. If you just installed the Samsung Portable SSD software, go to the Settings screen and disable the Password Protection feature as follows: br>br>On the Main screen, click the "Set" button, toggle the "Lock" button from ON to OFF, then enter and save a password. br>br>Otherwise, you won't be able to rely on unattended backups.

The "certificate has expired" when I received it today. What is the significance of this?

Have you downloaded the most recent version of the software? It's possible that it's because the drive's base software is out of date.

There isn't a Samsung T-Mobile T-Mobile T-Mobile T- Samsung has confirmed this
3/5

The 500 GB external hard drive came with only 87 MB of storage space. I called Samsung support and the serial number confirmed that this is not a Samsung product; I'm not sure from which third-party Amazon purchased this product, but they should be investigated right away.

If I were you, I wouldn't buy this
3/5

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out which one was the best. Three days after I received the Samsung Portable SSD T5, it crashed. 378GB of photos and documents were lost during the process. I simply uploaded my photos and documents, and everything was gone three days later. When I got this product, I gave it some tender loving care. Now that I've lost everything, I'm heartbroken. I strongly advise you to reconsider your decision and avoid purchasing this item.

Quickly This portable speed demon is one of my favorites
4/5

It's well-made and compact enough to fit in your pocket or laptop bag. However, it should not be installed on a Mac because of the software that comes with it. It caused a slew of issues, including intermittently disconnecting my 2017 MacBook Pro's Samsung SSD. After copying all of the files back to my Mac, uninstalling the software and drivers, and reformatting the Samsung SSD as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), I was able to use it again. br>br>If you installed the software on your Mac by accident, make a backup of all your files and follow the instructions below, which are listed but difficult to find in the Samsung T5 SSD Manual. You can also look at the screenshot I included with this review, in which Samsung explains how to remove it from both Windows and Mac. br>br>By running CleanupPSSD_Mac, you can manually delete software. In the installation path of SW, sh is used. br>(Normally, the path is /Library/Application Support/PortableSSD/CleanupPSSD_Mac. *Third-party cleaners like AppCleaner may not be able to completely remove "Samsung Portable SSD" SW.

Fake SSDs are available on Amazon
3/5

Another item purchased directly from Amazon that is a forgery. I've received fake Gillette razors, fake flash drives, and now a fake SSD, all of which were purchased and delivered by Amazon. Their supply chain appears to have been taken over by them.

If you're going to use this on a Mac, you should
4/5

If you're going to use it on a Mac, you'll need to erase and reformat it first. It's small and easy to carry around. I was also surprised by how quickly the data was transferred. Soon, I'll upgrade to a 1TB (or higher) hard drive dedicated solely to video.

I'm completely taken aback
5/5

I'm a music producer, so I try to find something that makes sense and isn't too expensive when it comes to storage and convenience. This product was recommended to me by a friend for externally storing my samples. When he told me about it and I ordered it, I assumed it would just be a small improvement in sample loading times, but when I started using it in projects, it completely blew my mind. When they say it's quick, they really mean it, and it's well worth the money.

For Macs, it's a good device, but the software isn't very good
3/5

I love the device, but as a Mac user, I've had a lot of trouble with it. br>br>There is one non-academic non-academic non-academic non-academic non The fact that the Mac isn't as durable as it appears is a Mac-related issue. The USB cable connector is made of flimsy metal that bends easily. This is not good for technology of this caliber. The proprietary software that comes with it, on the other hand, is a problem. When the computer goes to sleep, it frequently stops recognizing the drive, requiring you to unplug and re-plug it. br>br>After it *mounts*, it always says it was ejected improperly. br>br>At one point, I updated the software and it refused to be recognized on my laptop. After an hour of searching, I discovered the offending file and replaced it with a backup, and everything worked fine after that. br>br>In short, it's nice to have all this storage in your hands, but Samsung should make a Mac-compatible product. These days, proprietary software for accessories is a thing of the past. They should also make the software flawless while they're at it.

WARNING: This product is incompatible with MacOS Mojave! It was first installed on a 2017 Macbook Pro that was running Mojave 10
3/5

5 and successfully backed up from Time Machine. br>However, every subsequent attempt to run the Samsung T5 failed to connect. br>Amazon tech support was unable to assist and referred me to Samsung support, which sent me a convoluted 14-page repair manual. To make it work, you'll need to follow a step-by-step procedure. Failed. When I called Samsung again, the representative said, "This is a known issue with MacOS that we are working to resolve," and then gave me an even more complicated set of instructions that included turning off all security on my Macbook. Thank you, but no thanks. This nonsense is taking up too much of my time. My previous backup drives (Seagate and Western Digital) were simple to connect to the computer. and-play, with no issues with connectivity (until they finally died after several years of dependable service). br>Samsung, we'll miss you. The T5 is being returned to Amazon. Looking for a backup drive that simply works and is manufactured by a company with better quality control.
