Questions & Answers

What is the name of the hard drive's manufacturer?

We never disassembled the unit to find out who made the hard drive, so I don't know who made it. The HD's, on the other hand, have proven to be extremely durable. We have six 2TB units that we have been using on a daily basis for over two years and have had no issues with any of them.

What causes the backup data to be so slow to transfer?

There could be a number of factors at play here. This is a USB 3.0 drive. 0 is required for maximum transfer speed, and the computer must be equipped with USB 3.0. 0 also. br>In addition, the system should be limited to data transfer only. My Silicon Power unit is in excellent working order.

Why is it that mine isn't working? When I plug it into my PS4, it doesn't seem to add any storage?

Examine your PS4's settings. Check to see if you're allowing storage to be added and if you've updated your system.

Is it compatible with the Xbox One S?

My daughter keeps her games on the Xbox's external hard drive, which makes them run faster.

USB 3
5/5

0 is a solid, rugged, and light device. For when you're on the go, use 0 Drive. Overall, for the price and storage capacity, this is an excellent drive. I bought this drive so I could edit my video and photo files on the go and switch from computer to computer without having to upload large files to the cloud. My conclusions are as follows: br>br> br>The hard drive is compact and light. I've used a lot of LaCie rugged drives in the past, and they're quite large. This drive is small enough to fit into a thin laptop neoprene case or even a jacket pocket. (Photos are available. ) Although the marketing claims that it is scratch resistant, I do not believe this is the case. The top and bottom plastic casings are standard ABS, so expect a scratch or ding here and there over time. br>br>The USB port on the drive is a full size USB-A port. It's a C type connector, and it's the right shade of blue (pantone 300), indicating that it's a USB 3. 0 port. USB 3. 0 port, despite the fact that the packaging claims otherwise. However, I was perplexed by the fact that technically, USB 3. 0 is the first generation. Gen 2 is the first of three generations. The average rate was 120 when I tested it (see photos). 5 megabytes per second (MB/s) read, 122 megabytes per second (MB/s) write The drive receives the most stars for its write speed of 5 MB/s. USB 3. The 3. average speed tables are around 60 MB/s, so the 0 average speed tables are around 60 MB/s. In comparison to the other three formats, one format clocks at x2 the speed, which is just about right. 1 USB flash drive In comparison, the average internal HD clocks in at around 300 MB/s, so keep that in mind if you really need all the speed you can get. A USB external drive will not provide the same level of performance. So think about what you're going to do with these drives before you buy them. My Seagate 5TB tabletop external drives, which are also USB 3. 0, were put to the test. 1 Although the write speed is similar, the read speed on my Seagates is only 95 MB/s. A 27-inch iMac i7 serves as the bench computer. The drive is formatted in FAT32 by default. br>br> I reformatted it to be a standard Mac OS Extended (journaled) file system that is compatible with Time Machine, so you can use it as your Mac OS backup drive. br>br>I like the convenience of attaching the USB cable to the exterior so you don't have to find another place to store it or risk forgetting it altogether. Keep in mind that the USB cable is held in place by removable clips. They slide into a silicone rubber channel and can be yanked out with enough force on the USB cord. I don't see why this should be a problem, but keep in mind that it's not intended to be permanent. The cable is also short, measuring about 12" from one end to the other. br>br>There are two non-working ports. They don't stick out past the hard plastic top and bottom, so I'm not sure how effective they would be at dampening the shock from a fall on the corners, which is probably the most lethal spot. Keep in mind that this is not an SSD drive (otherwise it would be much more expensive), so don't drop it while it's in use. PROS: br>br> br>Fast 3. br>Lightweight br>Lightweight br>Lightweight br>Lightweight br> 1 USB r/wbr>Smaller Sizebr>Easy Cable Storagebr>Low Costbr>br>CONS: Not as long-lasting as it could be. br> For its construction/durability, I give it 4 stars. br>Not an SSD drivebr>br>If you enjoyed my review, please give it a Helpful thumbs up!.

My photographs simply vanished
3/5

I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I do photography as a second source of income, and after each photoshoot, I cut the photos from my SD card to my harddrive, as I always do. On this particular day, I transferred over 600 photos. Only 222 photos remained on my harddrive the next day when I went to look at them, and the only literary had vanished. So I closed and reopened the folder, and it only had 111 photos in it. I lost over 100 photos in seconds, on top of the other ones I had lost, and I spent an entire day trying to recover them, only being able to recover about half of them. I have no faith in this company, and their customer service phone number is useless because no one answers it, and their online chat is down. I'm going to return this to the seller.

All of my data was lost
3/5

I bought it a little over a year ago and used it to store all of my work files as a teacher - Since around 2003, I've had all of my teaching materials in one place. I had trouble accessing any of my files about a week ago. I had it taken to a local repair shop to see if they could help - but to no avail After that, I contacted Silicon Power via Facebook Messenger. I was able to send it to them myself (for which I paid postage). When Silicon Power responded, I was told that the drive had failed and that they would be unable to retrieve my data. I'd invested in a two-bedroom apartment. Data recovery is covered by a one-year policy. So, after some back-and-forth, As a result of this back-and-forth, I am now having this drive returned to me so that I can send it to the data recovery company. However, there's no guarantee that they'll be able to recover my information. I also won't be able to get a warranty replacement from Silicon Power if I return my defective drive (to send to the data recovery center). Overall, dealing with this company taught me a few strange things. Getting them to agree to return my defective drive to me was initially difficult. They insisted on calling the insurance company first (despite the fact that I'm still baffled as to why they were holding my hard drive hostage in the first place). They did give me a phone number to call if I needed to speak with them again - The most irritating aspect of their refusal to provide a replacement while my drive is still under warranty, especially when Silicon Power was unable to recover the data and acknowledges that the drive does not work, is that they never called me back. I mean. "Rugged" and "water-resistant" don't mean much. "military-grade" and "resilient" are two words that come to mind when thinking about If my data is lost, how can I "grade shockproof"? What is the point of a three-dimensional model? If the warranty isn't really valid, why give it for a year? Overall, I wouldn't be such a moron as myself. I'd have a back-up plan in case something went wrong. In addition, I would steer clear of Silicon Power.

The USB port on it is loose and disconnects if moved right out of the box, making it less than "rugged
3/5

" I've only had it for a few days and have only plugged in the USB a total of four times, but the usb port on it is already wiggly and loose. When I wiggle the cord and it wiggles the port, my computer disconnects? I was disappointed because I thought I was buying something "rugged" that would last a month, but now I'm not sure if I can trust it to last that long. When it's turned on, I don't want to have to hold my breath. edit: br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br If I brought it to a UPS store, Amazon said they would accept it and refund me. I've only had this thing for a week, so I'm hoping it doesn't cause me any problems. TIP: If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words "innovative" and "paraphrase. " CHECK THE USB CONNECTION PORT ON THE DRIVE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU PURCHASE THIS. Place the cable in place and gently move it from side to side to see if it's loose. Don't risk your data if it wiggles or gives way in any way. It's a pity because the design is lovely, but it's deceiving. Weak connection ports that eject the disk when the cable is touched or breathed on have nothing to do with ruggedness. I'm not going to bother with a replacement or another purchase from this company. It would be better if I built my own.
