Questions & Answers

Will any external hard drive suffice as additional storage, or do I need to purchase this one?

When loading a game on the Xbox, do you have to choose between using the internal or external drive? Will it look for it on its own, or will it come up with a solution?

Under the storage tab in your settings, you can switch between storage locations and select where your Xbox should download to. If you're using a 3.0 hard drive, you should be aware of this. Because there is only one USB port, the transfer rate is too slow to load and play the game as efficiently as if it were loaded and played from the internal 1 terabyte SSD.

Is there a connecting cord included with it?

It connects to the series console's back panel. There are no cords required.

Is it possible to use this on both the 360 and the X1 at the same time?

The Xbox 360 does not even have a USB 3.0 port. It only has two USB ports instead of zero.

STOPPED WORKING AT AN UNREASONABLE TIME
3/5

About 9 months ago, I bought this 2TB external hard drive for my husband. It worked fine until yesterday, and it did help free up space on the internal drive so the Xbox could run smoothly, but now it doesn't work at all, so it's effectively useless. There was no power surge, damage, or water exposure to the drive that caused it to malfunction. The drive is completely ignored by Xbox. I plugged it into my computer to reformat it (and lose everything) so it would work, but the computer doesn't recognize it. I bought a new cable to rule that out, but it didn't work. I went to Seagate for help online, but it says it's unknown when I put in the serial number and product number. According to online reviews, this occurs to a large number of people for no apparent reason after a certain period of time. This device is far too costly to have to replace every six months. on an annual basis I'm very disappointed in this purchase and would strongly advise people to look for an external drive made by a company that will provide support instead. If this issue is resolved, I'll update my rating to 5 stars because it worked fine before it randomly bit the dust.

Keep away from Seagate because they do not honor warranties
3/5

Seagate will not honor the warranty if you purchase this product. When I went to register a product that I purchased on March 25, 2018, it said it was out of warranty, despite the fact that the box stated a two-year warranty. Seagate was contacted, and after providing purchase documentation, the warranty was updated to be valid until March 26, 2018. They issued me with a one-day warranty. If you don't want to be disappointed, you should stay away.

Make sure you don't throw your money away! On May 24th, I purchased this product, and after reading mixed reviews, I decided to take a chance and purchase the 4TB version for my Xbox One
3/5

For $118 and change, I thought I was getting a great deal. I set it up and ensured that it was properly maintained. It's out in the open, so it won't overheat like it would if it were kept in a cabinet. It isn't close to any Xbox fans, and it isn't near anything that could cause it to overheat and cause damage. It crashed after a few days, and everything I had installed on it was lost. I contacted Amazon, who promptly sent me a replacement and instructed me to return the defective one. This is the only reason I gave it two out of five stars rather than one. br>br>I'm writing this on August 22nd, almost exactly three months after I purchased the device, and it just died on me a month ago. My Xbox, various friends' Xboxes, and my computer do not recognize it. I replaced the USB with a brand new one in the hopes that it was just a bad one, but that didn't help. Overall, the money spent and the headaches associated with it were not worth the trouble.

Keep your original packaging instead of throwing it away
3/5

It worked fine for about a month before corrupting the files of every game I had installed. The games would start up, then freeze, and when I exited and restarted them, they would hang at the title screen, with an error message indicating that the game data had been corrupted. The disk could not be reformatted. After that, installing the games directly onto the Xbox hard drive worked flawlessly, indicating that the Xbox is not the problem. Because warranty returns require the original packaging (serial numbers, etc. ), I'm out $90.

Stay away from junk and don't buy it if you have a bad drive
3/5

I was only employed for two months. The Xbox is no longer turning on. The hard drive has failed. On it, there were 269 games. I'm very upset. Other reviews should have been added to the list.

After 6 months on the job, I decided to leave
3/5

We've had it for six months and it's been working perfectly until the last few weeks. It simply stopped working, and we were left with nothing. It says it doesn't recognize me, and I've asked around but no one knows how or if it can be fixed.

It allowed me to save my social life
5/5

Before I got this 8 terabyte usb hub I could not store as much as I should have, so I continually uninstalled and reinstalled my games and told my friends I did not have it installed.

$400 is a financial hardship for me, but it is a necessary evil
4/5

It appears that $400 is a lot of money for 2TB, and it is. When you compare the current cost of gen 4 nvme drives, it's pretty close. Prices may come down in the future. I got it before it sold out because it's worth having as much storage as possible, even if I don't need it right now, to ensure that I'm covered for years to come. It's a costly purchase, but I'm willing to make it for my future self. When this type of fast storage is half the price in 2025, I'm sure I'll be thanking or cursing myself four years from now.
