When there's snow on the ground, it's virtually useless

are extremely light, fit securely, and perform beautifully on ice, even slipping through mud in a shallow pool if it is slick, and even the up and down hills, even It is not until the conditions I hiked in are a little better or worse that I would Under your feet, though, giant ice or mud balls form when there is ANY snow or slush on the surface. It may seem inconvenient at first, but it becomes a dangerous problem very quickly. After wearing these three times, I threw them away and returned them to the shop. After I experienced that weather for the first time, I was able to travel about a quarter mile in just a half inch of snow covering a thick layer of ice before the snowballs became painful. The snow kept building up on my soles, so I had to stop every other step to kick or drag my feet to get some of it off. The kick-plow maneuver served me well for several steps until it was insufficient. I had to stop and scrape snow off by hand. To kick-start Draw a line To kick-start To kick-start The stop'n'scrape concept To kick-start To kick-start Draw a line To kick-start My old habits of kicking, etc. , became really old. I tried just ignoring the snow balls to see if they would Not at all. In a matter of weeks, I had 6 inch platform shoes with rounded toes so I could feel as if I were walking on rocks. I decided a broken ankle was not worth the hassle, so I took the darn things off and dried them -- In terms of the snowball problem, it made no difference. When I emerged the third time I used Pam spray plus I left the crampons in the cold for a few hours before I put them on (warm crampons suddenly striking cold snow is supposed to cause snowballs to be formed). I found that to be ineffective as well. As an Amazon customer, I sent these back with sadness. Returning a item was an easy process (thanks to ), because all I had to do was clean the crampons and bring them to UPS. They didn't even need to be boxed up again. had kept them and intended to use them on ice, but as a resident of Idaho, I rarely have access to ice. I could not afford this product based on the fact that it would only be used once or twice a year and under very specific circumstances.

We've been successful! In the recent past, I have become more interested in hiking/climbing the bluffs in Bakersfield's northeast
5/5

There are many types of surface materials on these bluffs, such as hard-packed clay, rubble, coarse sand, gravel, dirt, and scree as well as combinations of two or more types. It is the clay that provides the best traction, unless it is covered with coarse sand in which case it The Sketchers GoWalk shoes demonstrated the most ability to deal with the aforementioned surface materials when I tested different types of footwear, boots and shoes with varied tread designs and depths. As far as traction is concerned, the soles perform well on smooth surfaces and moderately well on dirt and tamped-down surfaces It is time to take down the

As good as the Sketchers are, they cannot be used to walk up or down slopes with mixed footing of thirty degrees or more. Next up, the Hillsound Ultra Trail Crampon. It was a challenge for them to maintain a solid footing on all types of surfaces and on differing inclined This applies to ascending and descending sections of the trail. Wearing Ultras did not lead to sore feet, which was a corollary challenge. In my experience, the Ultras, mounted to my Sketchers met every expectation that I had - nothing short of amazing Even walking on soft sand was much easier on my feet due to the shoes. They handled all the familiar slopes smoothly without a single instance of slippage, and after a few miles I felt tempted to climb routes that I had not been able to reach before. In the next section, we looked at some inclines with mixed surfaces of 50 - 60 degrees. They were no longer a strenuous walk in the park after the Ultras were introduced. Given that this was only my first time wearing a pair of Ultras, I cannot comment on how they wear for a long period of time You may wear your term wear throughout your life. Despite my weight of over 220 pounds, the shoes were reliable under extreme stress, as they were able to handle all foot orientations on all surfaces and inclines without any slippage or deformation. There is only 1 negative I can mention, which is that the toe guide would not stay put on the front of the There was no problem with my small size 12, but the size 14 shoe caused a problem for me. No matter what the reason was, it did not cause.

This was one of the worst applications I ever had So far, I have used it twice
5/5

The snow is heavier than the ice. This was one of the worst applications I ever had In the winter you need snowshoes to handle the snow instead of the ice. I don't care whether you win or lose. A steep ascent hike is required for the second hike (i. e. There were switchbacks the entire way) that were extremely While going back down, the ropes were vital to my safety. I didn't use them going up, but I used them going back up. When there is mud on the decline, it is far easier to slip. It is extremely hard for me to slip in these, and they held up just fine over rocks (I know you don't want to use them over rocks, but I seem strong enough to do this with my 200 lbs). My experience has been to rinse the chain links after use, so I haven't noticed any rusting. However, I have seen some people complain of the chain links coming apart, so I would suggest you pre-treat them. Prevent any damage by keeping a ziplock bag on hand Your kit should be tied in. As of yet, I have not had an issue, but if I do, I will just see how the warranty and customer service go. They do eat a lot of different kinds of food Once the gears are adjusted after a dozen or so miles, this problem is easy to correct. It was possible to keep re-entering A proper orientation is necessary for them to stay on You have to get them on with a bit of technique, but otherwise, it's.

The trail is well adapted to the ice
4/5

It isn't as big as it seems. The micro spikes are in good condition and work well. They performed well on a very icy hike today. They stuck well on the uphills as well as the downhills. Although we should be fair, these are new and sharp, and better than my old Kahtoolas. Putting them on while standing up in the field is very hard. Despite the fact that I ordered a S and I was in the middle of the range (W8), I think getting the M would have been a better option. If I had the Mediums, I would be so much happier! Thus, I recommend going a size up, particularly if your hiking boots are winter ones. I have one note to make. As a matter of fact, calling these crampons crampons leads to a lot of confusion among mountaineers. A crampon is not a device like that. A steep slope will be no problem with them If you want to climb a steep snowfield or glacier, you would use these trails.
