Not a special sweater, just an ordinary cotton one. As it is lightweight, it does not add a lot of heat. You can't help but be moved by it. The sweater cools you off a bit but is not as warm as a winter jacket. My 4 year old wore it outside in 50 degree weather on the Oregon coast this winter. During the ceremony, we had to put the heavier jacket on her, and she was able to stay warm.
