Last year, when my child was wearing a size 4 in most clothes, I purchased an xs (inner tag says us xs 4/5) for him. I just tried it on him and it's still a good fit. He is now a size 5, and most 4/5 clothing is too small for him. This jacket appears to be true to size; hopefully, this information is useful.
I'd say yes, but if you're going out in below-freezing temperatures, make sure you're dressed appropriately. We live in New Hampshire, and this works perfectly for us.

During the Cyber Monday sale, I ordered two for my four and six-year-old boys, each for $27. br>br>The fit is as expected, with plenty of room for growth, as I want them to wear it this winter and next. br>XS for my four-year-old, who stands 41 inches tall and weighs 36 pounds. br>S for my six-year-old, who stands 47 inches tall and weighs 43 pounds. br>br>My favorite feature is the sleeve lining. A long sleeve can easily be slipped in without bunching. Fleece is used for the body lining. The buttons are sturdy. br>br> They're a little difficult for my four-year-old to button quickly, but they're fine for my six-year-old, and the zipper is durable. br>br>It will definitely keep my boys warm on the way to school and when they are outside; however, my younger one is a hothead and complained that it was "too hot" when he tried it on indoors. My older child enjoys being warm and toasty, and he claims he felt as if he were wearing his blanket. br>br>I haven't washed it yet, but the color doesn't appear to be fading. br>br>Overall, I'm very pleased with the jackets' quality.

This is an amazing coat! Lands End or Columbia are our go-to brands for outerwear, and this coat is just as good. So far this season, it has kept my son toasty warm. The hood is also roomy enough for him to wear a hat underneath if necessary. I would purchase this item again.
This is a nice jacket that reminds me of Old Navy and the Children's Place in terms of quality. This is a good fit for my 3-year-old son. He's a small boy for his age, so the jacket will most likely fit him again next year. The camo color and orange lining are both very appealing to me. The inner hand warmers and the zip lining inside help keep him warm by preventing snow from coming up the jacket. Thanks to Amazon, I believe this was an excellent purchase.

I'm hoping this one will see us through the rest of the winter and possibly into the fall of next year. We live in the Midwest, where the winters are harsh, but this is warm enough to use on a regular basis. The fleece lining is extremely comfortable and warm. The wrist cuffs are my favorite feature; they're soft and easy to get toddler hands into and out of while still keeping them warm. I also got a girls one for my 6-year-old, who says it's great for recess because it's light and easy to move around in. We haven't yet experienced bitterly cold temperatures or significant snowfall. I'm pleased with these coats in general.
Beautiful coat with a lot of nice features like a waist snap to keep out cold drafts and thumb holes to keep snow out. It's light and easy to clean. My son dislikes bulky clothing, but he enjoys this one.
