You don't have to, in my opinion. After we've finished playing, we remove the foam face part to clean it and let it air out. Our Oculus does not require the use of a glasses spacer, and everything fits perfectly.
That is an excellent query! I just got my new Oculus Quest 2 yesterday, so I just swapped it into this case and it fits perfectly; the old Quest is slightly larger, so there is a slight gap, but it is still quite snug; and the new controllers are slightly larger, but they still fit nested. I don't have the elite strap, but it appears that it would still fit with enough room to "squish" down when the lid is closed. I'll write a review with photos of the new Quest 2 in the case so you can see if the Elite head strap will fit. On a side note, I like this case a lot, so I'm glad the new one works well with it:

I regret to inform you that if you had modded your Quest with the Vive DAS, you would have avoided this situation. You can make it work with this case, as you can see in the pictures, but you'll have to force the headphones in and bend the Vive DAS a little bit in, and the speaker mounts will still press on the zipper a little. The strain it places on the speakers and the Vive DAS isn't worth it in my opinion. It's difficult enough to find a Vive DAS right now, and I don't want to have to buy another because the case put too much strain on it. I'd be thrilled if a company created a case for the mod. They'd profit handsomely from it, in my opinion. The FrankenQuest mod is a must-have for any gamer. I'd just switch cases. If you don't want to spend the money on the official case, you can make your own. This is a good alternative; if I didn't have the official case and didn't want to do the mod, I'd use it.
If you, like me, have modded your Quest with the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, this could be the case. The modded quest fits in the case, though it is a tight fit. This is something I would recommend and purchase again. It took a while to get, but the wait was well worth it.
Although the new controllers are slightly larger than the old ones, they can still be stacked on top of one another. I am overjoyed. The case includes a lense cover that fits snugly inside the lense area, as well as a sling strap for easy carrying. Overall, the case is fantastic; its toughness is such that getting a knock on it will have no negative impact on your quest! This case is highly recommended over the official one.
Unfortunately, the Oculus Quest 2 Elite Strap did not fit in this case. This particular Elite strap does not fit. It does fit theirs, as someone mentioned in this review, so it's possible they have the Elite strap in a different version. Before you buy this case, make sure you know which Elite strap you have. Overall, this case is extremely durable and of excellent quality; I only wish it had been designed to accommodate my Elite strap. It has a strong aroma. I chose this case because, based on various reviews, I wasn't convinced that the official Oculus case would be sufficient for me. There are cutouts inside the case for the headset and controllers, as well as a divot for the pro strap (which I don't have, so I use this spot for cables), and I'm happy with my choice after using it for a little more than a week. I have no complaints about the product itself; the only thing I don't like about it, and the reason I gave it four instead of five stars, is the strong plastic odor it emits. I tried leaving it open and using a dryer sheet, but the odor is too strong. It even transferred to the headset itself when I first got it, but it eventually calmed down; I'd like to see this fixed in future versions.
I mostly use it to move things from one place to another. When charging the headset, I simply put it in the case so I could keep track of both items. The power cord, as well as other items such as my Chromecast, have plenty of room, and there are two inside pockets that are narrow but could be useful for user manuals.
