They do, however, have screw holes in the bottom to ensure a secure fit. A couple of self-tapping screws and some double-sided tape were used. They improved the bass response of component 6x9s significantly, effectively "sealing" the door compartment and turning it into a box. They should have included hardware, in my opinion. I wouldn't have been upset if the proper bolts or screws had cost a few dollars more. 10 was the number I used. With a touch of lock tight to ensure they wouldn't loosen over time, 24x3/4 machine screws worked fine.
The housings on the original speakers are a lot thicker. They also have a metal bushing in the mounting bolt hole to allow for more torque on the bolt, as well as an assembly-friendly design. Clip and insulation along the mounting surface to aid in installation. I used my old speakers to mount my new speakers because I didn't want them to collect dust on the shelf in my garage. I cut out the existing cage after removing the cones and magnets. the original wiring connector will be left in place. The new speaker was installed in the remaining piece after the old one had been prepared, and the leads were soldered to the OEM connector. As a result of all of this, we were able to create a unique piece. The correct connector for the vehicle's harness was found in this assembly. While this does take some time, the end result is far more durable and costs nothing but time - This isn't a big deal for a do-it-yourselfer (or even a pro).
The price was reasonable for assisting in the installation of the rear speakers on a 2014 Silverado. However, the overall quality was poor. Metra produces excellent products, but they failed miserably on this occasion. br>Fit could have been better to avoid "looseness," and speaker mounting holes could have been done differently so that you don't have to use a long screw to hold the speaker to the door, rather than having it mount to the adapter itself and the adapter use the factory mounting point. Overall, cutting up a fa tory speaker and shaving it down to use as a spacer was a better use of my money than purchasing these. The same is true for the Silverado's 6x9 version of this accessory.
I like that these are made specifically for the application, making replacing the factory speakers a lot easier. The only complaint I had was that the fitment tolerances could have been a little tighter. To keep the speaker from flopping around in the door, I had no choice but to wrap it in sound-dampening material. Second, only two of the mounting holes lined up for installation, and the remaining two needed to be drilled to properly secure the speaker. The good news is that these are made of a much more rigid material than most other brands on the market. Another advantage is that they appear to be nearly the same height when mounted, leaving very little space between the speaker and the door panel. To help with door panel vibrations, I added 1/4 inch weather stripping to close the gap. Overall, this is an excellent product.
A minor adjustment is required. These turned out to be a huge success. There are no rattling noises and the fit is perfect. To keep my speaker in place, I used some self-tapping screws. The holes were not perfectly aligned. As a result, I drilled my own mini-drills. Each speaker, I'm guessing, is a unique fit. I am, however, content. Good value for money!.
For my Silverado, these 6x9 speaker spacers were ideal. I recommend using foam tape on the side of the speaker that touches the door firewall, as well as on the speaker itself, because the speaker will vibrate and cause noise if it touches the door panel, which the foam will prevent.
My new silverado came with a previous owner who took every opportunity to add aftermarket parts. Because of the way GM speakers are now made and installed, aftermarket speakers will require brackets. In the end, he decided to try using the OEM speaker bracket. It was both visually and audibly appalling. These were the ones who were able to correct the situation.
The only flaw I found was that the holes were not perfectly aligned, but I was still able to mount my speakers in them. Once I've installed them in my wife's 2017 GMC Sierra Crew Cab, I'll post another update.
