iFixit Mako Driver Kit - 64 Precision Bit Set for Electronics Repair

I was already a fan of their 54-bit kit, but the aluminum driver with rubber o-rings didn't sit well with me. Working with a slick driver can be difficult because of rings and large hands. With an updated driver, casing, bit placement, and a larger selection of bits, this new 64-bit kit outperforms the previous one. Read on for more information if you notice some minor changes in a specific area. br>br>For starters, I really like the new packaging; it makes me feel like I'm opening a brand new phone; this is a box I'll definitely save; and their brand new aluminum driver, which has knurling near the tip for better traction when tightening and loosening those stubborn but delicate screws. I really like the driver's three-sided profiling near the midsection, which also serves as an anti-slip feature. It also gives you a real purchase on the driver thanks to the roll feature. It reminds me of the Husky 8-Piece Set from Home Depot. 1 screwdriver with red rotating end cap and gray body, model 74501, which is sadly no longer available. Now, let's return to the subject of this review. To top it off, the new iFixit driver's rotating end cap is mounted on a ball bearing, giving you even more control over screw tightening! br>br>Now the next thing they did with this case made the nerd in me go crazy, because they thought of everything when designing it; it's no longer the flimsy plastic dollar store material that the 54 bit kit came in (sorry iFixit, but I'm being honest, and I understand you guys had to keep costs down). Hardcore geeks, on the other hand, demand a good-looking product. For starters, the lid and base of the case are now held together by magnets. Then I thought to myself, hmm, magnets, wouldn't the lid come off if accidentally nudged? Nope! To prevent this from happening, they added a small lip to the inside of the case! So, intrigued by the fact that they paid such close attention to detail, I said, "OK, iFixit, you have my attention. " Especially when it comes to something as minor as the added lip to keep the lid from falling off; So, when you open the case up, there's a grid-like pattern on the inside of the lid that can be used as a screw/parts tray, and if that's not your thing, you can attach the lid to the bottom of the case with, guess what! Additional magnets are required! So now everything has a reason to exist! br>br>I also like the new presentation of the bits, which is similar to how their Macro Bit kit is set up. There will be no more rubber inserts with five other bits attached to the one you need. You can now emboss the bit type and size into EVA foam for a cleaner, more professional appearance. I also believe that going this route allowed the 64 bit kit, as well as the overall 2016 pro tech tool kit, to be significantly shorter than its predecessor; by using EVA foam, they essentially have a blank canvas to work with, assign bits to their assigned spots, and avoid the restraints and unnecessary material that came with the 54 bit kit's rubber inserts. Finally, the bits' quality is what you'd expect from iFixit: they're made of 6150 tool steel, the security bits have perfectly centered holes, the bits have an outstanding finish, and they're tough! It's also backed by a lifetime warranty, so it's a no-brainer to add to your toolkit. If something isn't as it should be, I won't hesitate to pick up the phone and express my concerns. br>br>Ok, I'm a stickler when it comes to my tools and their quality; if something isn't as it should be, I won't hesitate to pick up the phone and express my concerns. Here are my conclusions now that I've had this 64-bit kit for a while and have had the opportunity to compare it to other products I own. br>br>In this 64-bit kit, the pentalobe bits are exactly where they should be! I compared the pentalobe bits in this 64 bit kit to the pentalobe bits in several of my Wiha products and other iFixit products that I own, including their 54 bit kit and their Pro-Fixit kit. Screwdriver set for the techie. The pentalobe bits in the 64-bit kit are exactly as they should be, in my opinion. When comparing this 64 bit kit to my Wiha products, they were almost identical in terms of machining, with the pentalobe bit having round edges and a nice fit, as those of you who pay attention to detail, like myself, should know the pentalobe bit has rounded edges, not pointed like a torx. They remind me of lily pads, so I compare them to them. So, after seeing that they had finally fixed the issue with the bits, I compared the 64 bit kit to my 54 bit kit and noticed that the pentalobe bits were different. The sharper edge of the 54 bit kit pentalobe bits was similar to that of a torx bit, minus one tooth. So I said, "All right, let's look at the Pro-. " The pentalobe bits were rounded, not pointed, as they should be in a Tech Screwdriver set. Now, this isn't meant to disparage iFixit; rather, it's meant to compare them to a well-known, trusted, and reputable brand; so, if you can't afford or justify the higher-end Wiha tools, I'd highly recommend the iFixit line of tools as the next best thing in line. br>br>Way to go, iFixit! This one's a slam dunk!.

It may not appear to be significant. Isn't it true that any screwdriver bit will do? THIS IS NOT AT ALL THE CASE! br>br>In the last three years, I've purchased two iFixIt screwdriver sets. The first one was a shambles, and many of my belongings were stolen. I also bought a highly rated item two months ago. I had a no-name brand bit kit that looked almost identical to the last iFixit kit I had, but they were sub-par, as usual. par. br>br>I'm not sure where iFixit gets their parts made, or if it's just a matter of their manufacturer's extremely high standards, but these bits are. PRECISE . I don't know what else to call it. I can't quite put into words how amazing it is to use bits like this versus cheaper brands other than to say that the difference is undeniable. As long as you use the correct bit for the job, you will never strip a screw head with these bits. They're also long-lasting. My previous set of headphones still worked as well as they did the first day after three years of hard daily use. br>br>Would you pay an extra ten dollars for this set over the generic nonsense? Without a doubt. IS IT VALUE FOR MONEY THREE TIMES THAT AMOUNT? YOU BET! If you're looking to buy something like this, paying an extra ten dollars shouldn't even be a consideration. It's an obvious choice. Don't even think twice about getting them. You will not be disappointed, I assure you. There isn't even a smidgeon of doubt in my mind.

All of the screws in my iPhone 8 were stripped by a Y000 screw bit. Based solely on my personal experience with it, I didn't care for this kit at all. To begin with, the case was slightly damaged on the inside, where they recommend using the squared divides to organize your screws; however, this was not a major issue for me, as I prefer any flaws to be the result of normal wear and tear rather than on brand new items. It gave me the impression that this kit wasn't of the highest quality. The Y000 screwdriver, which had been used to repair my iPhone 8, was the next problem. Despite the fact that I purchased the kit specifically to obtain those screws, I immediately noticed that the driver did not fill the screws to my satisfaction. I came across a problematic screw, and this driver did nothing but strip the screw due to its insufficient size. Unfortunately, because it was the most important screw in the screen replacement, the home button screw, it ruined my replacement job, and I now have an $800 phone. I assumed Apple's screws were defective, but it turns out that the screwdriver is defective as well, due to its insufficient size. I purchased a new Y000 screwdriver that is noticeably thicker and works perfectly on Apple Y000 screws. I'd give it a two-star rating, but since it caused my phone to be damaged, I'll give it a one-star rating.

As others have stated, there is a good selection of bits. However, this is the 2016 version, which differs slightly from what ifixit sells on their own website in that it lacks both the magnetic pickup and the iPhone standoff. There are other methods for removing the iPhone's standoff screws, but this bit works well and is not included in this version of the driver kit.

I was not impressed in the least. On a Xbox, I used this set to remove two screws. I then used a different set of screws, which fit perfectly and didn't strip anything. The variance on these is off, and it's to a destructive degree when it comes to the screws you'll be using this set on. I responded by returning it. They put a lot of effort into the case, but if the pieces don't fit, it's nearly useless.

Metal that has been discarded. The status has been lowered. This garbage is just like any other garbage tool, but it comes at a premium price for the marketing knuckleheads. I use this tool primarily for camera lens repairs and have already noticed some wear, despite the fact that it is used with very small screws. br>Shame on you cheap brand; I will never come close to this brand again. br>I use this tool primarily for camera lens repairs and have already noticed some wear.
