Sony WHXB900N Noise Cancelling Headphones, Wireless Bluetooth Over the Ear Headset - Blue (Amazon Exclusive)

I bought this expecting it to be a nice upgrade from my XB950N1. It's more comfortable, so that's a plus, but after listening to a few songs and noticing that something wasn't quite right, I ran a sine-wave frequency test and discovered that the frequency response below 40hz is significantly weaker and tinnier than the old XB950N1. To make matters worse, the physical buttons on the right cup have been replaced with a really stupid invisible touch system that is extremely easy to set off by accident whenever you take off or adjust your headset during a conversation, or fall asleep on a train, etc. The final strike against it is that whenever you plug the headset in using the 3. It disables all equalizer settings and reverts to a boring, plain sound with no bass boost and no way to change it. The old XB950N1 saves the bass boost settings in the headset and keeps them whenever the wire is plugged in, allowing you to use it on a PC without any problems. I'm baffled as to why they REMOVED a useful software feature, or why they believe that sliding your finger around and making gestures is more convenient than having a physical pause button. The most serious offender is the decreased availability of low-cost housing. The only saving grace is that it's more comfortable with better padding (especially over the head), which is why I gave it two stars rather than one. It's a shame, because I had been looking forward to this purchase for quite some time.

My XB950BT headphones had recently broken, so I decided to purchase these as a replacement the next day. First and foremost, the audio quality is excellent. I'm hearing details in the mid and low frequencies that I wasn't getting with the xb950bt headphones. I was surprised at how noticeable of an upgrade these were over the XB950bt's already excellent audio. They were able to squeeze a lot of bass out of these without negatively impacting the midrange. When using the headphones app on the XB950bt, turning up the bass caused the song to distort due to the entire headphone shaking. While still sounding big, the bass is now much more solid and controllable. I mostly listen to EDM, so the amount of bass is ideal for me; however, I did listen to some non-EDM music, and I can see why people who don't like bass music wouldn't enjoy these. It's just a tad too in-depth for my tastes. your- face. However, in the app, you can lower the bass. So, if you're looking for a less expensive version of the Sony 1000xm3 but are concerned about the bass, lowering the bass on the headphones app will make them sound more natural. Instruments appear to be present in your mind. br>br>The noise cancellation isn't particularly impressive. I don't have anything to compare it to, but while mowing the lawn, it could only cancel the low frequencies. You can adjust the amount of cancellation, which on one hand increases the noise level around you. This feature appeals to me because I like to be aware of my surroundings when I am at home. br>br>I like how you can cover your right ear to lower the volume while amplifying the sound around you so you can hear what people are saying. It's quick and consistent, but it'll come across as amusing and rude to strangers if you try it with them. br>br>These headphones have a modern feel thanks to the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa buttons. You can either hold it down to activate the Assistant or fast click it to have your notifications read aloud to you. The only issue is that if you want to use it, you won't be able to toggle noise cancelling because both buttons are used. In the headphones app, you must select your preferred option. I don't see why they couldn't add a third button to ensure that no compromises are made; There's room for one more. Toggle noise cancellation with a double click, for example. br>br>Adaptive sound control is a feature that adjusts the noise cancellation intensity depending on whether you're sitting, walking, running, or driving. This would be a great feature if it didn't play a bell notification and pause the music every time you got up and moved or sat down. You can't use adaptive sound control unless the sound is playing, which is inconvenient. It's a shame, and hopefully the notification will be removed or made optional with a software update. EDIT: The bell notification and guides can be turned off using a setting. The headphones app allows you to change the sound's spatial position. br>br> Now you know if that information is useful to you. br>br>With the touch pad, I've already skipped a few tracks by accident. Because there are no physical buttons on the right side of the headphones, you must be careful when touching them. Instead, swipe gestures are used. I'm hoping I'll get used to it and it won't be an issue. So far, the touch gestures appear to be fairly responsive, but it's sometimes difficult to avoid skipping a track when you're trying to turn up the volume. Because of how much motion each volume tick takes, it takes an eternity to adjust the volume any significant amount. You'll have to use your phone to quickly turn down the volume. The main benefit of using swipe gestures is that they are non-breakable. My xb950bt's volume up button stopped working less than a year after I purchased them, and the track switch button was a pain to use after two years. I'm only assuming that these headphones will last longer because our phones' touch screens don't suddenly stop working. I also appreciate how simple it is to pause music by double tapping the right speaker. I only wish it were a little quicker. EDIT: The difficulty in changing the volume without skipping the track is becoming increasingly frustrating. Even if I swipe directly up (which is for volume up), it will sometimes skip the track I'm listening to. Nothing is more aggravating than getting into a song and wanting to turn it up only to have it skip over the song you're listening to. They should fix this in a software update and make skipping the track much more difficult. At this point, I only use my phone to change the volume, which is inconvenient because the main reason I like the touch controls is that the volume button won't break like it did with my previous headphones. br>br>The Bluetooth connection has been problematic for me. It stopped working on me during a call once, and again when I tried to play music the other time. The call was made while I was playing a Snapchat game and my music was playing in the background. The last time it disconnected, there were two apps playing audio at the same time, so I'm guessing it disconnects whenever there's too much input. Without knowing I was wearing my new headphones, my girlfriend said the call quality was excellent, which is a plus. If the problem persists, I'll post an update. This is no longer an issue for me. I believe the only thing that went wrong was Snapchat calling. br>br>They're not very comfortable to wear for long periods of time; I've had them on all day today and they're starting to hurt my head. I've only had the XB950BT on for a few minutes, but they've already made my head feel better. The xb900n has a slightly tighter fit around your ears, and the cups aren't as large, so the speaker brushes up against my ears a little. They simply require larger pads, despite the fact that this would detract from their slim appearance. br>br>Honestly, the best feature of these headphones is that they are USB-compatible. Finally, I can charge my headphones with the same charger that I use for my phone. This is a deal breaker for me, and the main reason I prefer these to the XB- 950N1 despite its flaws. br>br>In comparison to the bulky and outdated XB950BT, these headphones feel very modern and stylish. The most serious issues, such as touch controls and double-tapping Google Assistant to activate noise cancellation, can be resolved with software updates. These headphones are nearly perfect in terms of hardware, with the only flaws being the small ear pads and cheap plastic. I'm afraid these won't last more than two years before cracking, so I purchased a three-year protection plan to go with them.

SOUND QUALITY AND BASS: I have a pair of Sony 1000XM3 and QC35 headphones that have significantly more bass. They aren't quite as clear as the other two, but they are still excellent. They have a more lively and enjoyable sound. Set the equalizer to Exited and the headphones to Arena mode, then crank up the volume. While the vibration isn't as intense as the Skullcady Crushers, it's there if you want it.

NOISE CANCELLING, I would estimate that these headphones cancel 60%- 70% of noise is cancelled by the Bose QC35s and XM3s/Bose 700s (which is really good). These are without a doubt among the best noise-canceling headphones available. If all you want is noise cancellation, the Sony 1000XM3 or Bose 700 are good options. You will still be able to hear some outside noise such as loud fans, chatter, etc at low volumes (40 or so) if you want to block noise completely it is pos 80% volume
