I was looking for something like this for my big truck. The unit does not obstruct my access to my controls because it sits out of the way. My favorite feature about the phone holder is that the bottom portion slides out so that I can insert a charger while the phone is kept securely in place. As a result of other comments, I make sure that the mount is not overtightened. My cup did not fit perfectly because of the design of the cup holder, but I installed a Styrofoam cup and secured it with.

It's a bit of a stretch for me to qualify on both counts since I am not tech-savvy and don't have a cell phone. The GPS has always intrigued me. You might be able to make it work for you. When I'm texting, I also have a loop on my cell phone case that I can put my finger inside. In order to set the phone securely on the cradle, you had to get rid of that loop.
