A pleasant surprise awaited me. Light streams directly from the back, the front is regular and the back is magnified 10 times. It turns on, off and changes lighting with a touch of a button. A USB plug is required to charge it, but you can use the charging cable that comes with it. It takes a reasonable amount of time to charge and comes with good instructions. The application was used on my i-phone I was able to use the phone cube. So far I'm very impressed with the product! I've only had it a few days but so far I'm very impressed! A brief update The mirror has been with me for a couple of weeks now. This mirror is so much better than the Conair lighted/magnified mirror I used to have. The battery ran down over the course of these two weeks. Each time I use it, I use it for about 5 minutes. It kept its brightness until all of a sudden it faded away, so I plugged it in, plugged it back in, and the light changed from red to green within 1 1/2 hours.
