That's not what I did. This product was really easy to use. Just paint a thick coat on, let it sit for about 30 minutes, then rinse. I have only half of a bottle left after I have painted 3 skulls.
Although I am not a professional, I believe peroxide won't leave the hair as soft as you had hoped. When I want my hair lighter, I like to use decoloring powder (bleach powder). I leave it on my hair for a longer or a shorter period of time depending on how light it becomes on my hair. If you leave it on your hair too long, it will damage it. The best thing you can do if you have never done it yourself is to go to a professional, or if you are crazy like me, watch some videos on YouTube.
In order to use the bleach powder, you must mix the developer. It would be best to use the 30 volume if you don't have experience. You should avoid using the 40 on your hair as it can do serious damage.

To dye my dark hair red, I used it and it worked perfectly. I am very satisfied with the result! The product was also used by my husband for a project he was working on. I guess under a black light it did a great job of cleaning plastic. In the bottle, it says you can use it as regular peroxide.
