The top section (brown faux tortoiseshell plastic) measures 3. On the side, it measures 5 inches from tip to tip, and the clasp bottom is 2 inches. The distance between the hinge and the clasp connector is 5 inches. I hope this has provided you with a satisfactory response to your query.
On this picture, the clasp is on the left side; simply squeeze both sides together to close it. The bottom section of the device is removed. It is very simple to open If you have thicker hair, this is a nice big opening.

"Wonderful for thick hair" and "I have very thick hair and this works great!" were two of the most common comments in the reviews, so I decided to buy it. " Well, I guess I should have spent more time studying! When I saw this, I laughed and thought to myself, "Wow, I must have really thick hair!" If you want to use it as a low pony holder, and you have thick hair, this will not work. The clip isn't even close to being finished. I can only use this to pull my hair back, but I have plenty of those types of barrettes. I was looking for a way to pull all of my hair back into a pretty pony without having to use a pony holder. If that's what you're looking for, DON'T BUY.
I couldn't even get this around my hair to close. I'm not sure why the metal bar connecting the plastic barrette and the clasp is curved down rather than up against the barrette itself - It's almost as if it were constructed backwards. I ordered another one similar to this a few years ago, and it's built with the metal in the center curved up against the plastic, and it works perfectly.
Maybe half of my hair would be held back with this barrette. I needed a ponytail that could hold all of my hair in place. This is not going to work. It's a nice barrette, but it's not strong enough to hold back a thick head of hair. I've given up hope of finding one that works. I bought a few of these from Amazon that are long or large enough for thick (and lots of) hair. This CaravanCanal Tubular Barrette is of excellent quality, but when doubled up for a bun, it squeezes the hair too tightly. This other French Luxe Barrette here is the one that really works: For some reason, the CaravanCanal Tubular isn't long enough for a bun with doubled-up thick hair, whereas the France Luxe Oblong Skinny is, and it looks great.
I bought it based on the brief description and the positive reviews. I needed a barrette that would allow me to pull all of my hair back into a low ponytail - I've tried using a barrette instead of an elastic band to secure my hair, but it won't close. This barrette only fits about 25% of my hair

There is an excessive amount of curve. They do, however, hold up. These barettes have excellent clips that can be adjusted to three different tightnesses. If you want it thicker, simply clip it down a little harder. They also have a strong grip that allows them to remain in place. The only thing that bothers me is how large they are. Although they can hold a lot of hair, you'll be looking through air on the top of your head even if you have thick hair. So, unless you really, really need to hold a lot of hair, they're a little silly looking. They'd be a tad more bitter for me if they were a tad less curved.
This barrette has piqued my interest! It's extremely comfortable and also stays put. It appears to be of very high quality. The "spring" is extremely flexible and can easily be squished, but it bounces right back and holds hair in place. My hair is coarse and fine. At first, I thought it wouldn't fit a whole pony, but then I noticed how bouncy and flexible the "spring" is, (I know, I'm using the wrong word!). I'm pretty sure I could completely flatten it. As a result, I smashed all of my hair in with even more force. My entire pony fit, with some extra room. I snapped a photo. br>br> My hair needs to be washed, so it's not the best photo, but I always enjoy seeing photos from reviews.
I can't find these in any of my local stores' hair care sections, and if I do, they're much more expensive; I'm still baffled by the pricing for such a simple accessory, but I'm glad I can get one. The quality is excellent; it is simple to open and close, and there is no looseness in the clasp; it appears to be well-made and will withstand the use that I intend to give it. Now, if we could just find some interesting patterns and shapes to add to the mix, that would be fantastic. I've been wearing mine for three days and am extremely happy with the quality and performance.
