Questions & Answers

How difficult is it to open and close it? Is it possible for my child to open the door by dragging a chair over to it?

If your child drags a chair over to the door, he or she will almost certainly be able to lock it if it is currently unlocked, but I doubt a child will be able to unlock it if it is locked. When I have adults over, I have to unlock the door so they can leave. My youngest did the chair trick and was able to lock it, but she was unable to unlock it, as I previously stated.

Is it possible to mount this OVER THE TOP OF DOUBLE DOORS?

To improve the security of my double doors, I plan to install this on the stationary side. It will be attached to the door's top. On the bottom portion of this door, I have a door club installed. On a double door setup, the traditional flush bolts offer very little security.

Is it possible to install this lock on a steel door?

The door jam, not the door, is where it is mounted. My doors are made of metal, and I have one on each one.

Is this something that can be installed on a door that has a moulding around it? Both of our doors have moulding that extends beyond the width of the door. ?

Molding around my door is a problem for me as well. To resolve the problem, I set up three distinct self-contained units. Stick rectangle rubber bumpers on the Door Guardian's black rubber and they'll fit perfectly, extending the Guardian's reach to the door. It's neat and it fits like a glove.

For my own sanity, I needed something out of the way and simple to activate
5/5

For my own sanity, I needed something a little higher, out of the way, and easy to activate because I have a toddler who has recently learned to open locked doors. Both the garage door and the front door have one mounted on each of them, and both of them open inwards. I still need to figure out how to make a door that opens outwards. br>br>The setup is extremely simple, requiring only three screws to be installed. Before permanently screwing the long screws in, follow their advice and practice opening and closing the doors and latching the lock a few times. Make sure it doesn't rub against the door as it closes, as this can cause damage. br>br>Overall, a great product that only takes about 5 minutes to set up.

Caregivers of Alzheimer's patients will appreciate this book
5/5

Tough, secure, and simple to set up. My Cardinal Gates Door Guardian has been installed on my front door for several months. The one-handed opening and latching of the clever design, as well as the sleek design with baked-in protection, make it a breeze to use. It appears to be a natural fit for an enamel finish. br>br>It was fairly simple to set up. Because my door was too tight, I shaved off about 1/8th inch of wood from the door jamb with a sharp chisel, but most doors have more space and don't require trimming. An electric drill came in handy when I needed to cut a thin guide hole for the two extra-large screws. screws with a long length br>br>In terms of security, the Door Guardian would make breaking in a real pain. However, I purchased it because my wife suffers from Alzheimer's disease and is prone to wandering. I recommend that it be mounted at the top of the door; Alzheimer's patients will miss it and attempt to unlatch it if it is out of their immediate line of sight. This is a five-star product that you should buy.

If you have children, this is a must-have item that also works on double doors
5/5

I wanted something I could mount higher on our front door that could be operated by an adult but was out of reach of our children. My son scared the living daylights out of us a week ago when he unlocked and opened the front door (which we didn't think he could do) and chased me out of the house. We are fortunate in that we live at the end of a dead end street. ish a peaceful street I was looking at standard chain security locks, such as those found on hotel room doors, when I came across this. It sounded like a brilliant idea, so I bought it, and it turned out to be fantastic. We used it in a different way than advertised, as you can see in the photo. Our front door has two doors, one of which is inactive (flush bolts at top and bottom). Because there was just enough space between the doors, I was able to install the left door without mortising it, which cut my installation time in half. I simply drilled a pilot hole in the middle and tightened the middle screw enough to ensure the lock was in the proper position (the middle screw hole is wide so you can adjust how far the lock needs to protrude to clear any moulding or casing), then drilled the other two holes and installed the screws. Done. It's perfect and exactly what we were looking for. The white object beneath the Guardian lock is a door chime/alarm that we use to alert us if the kids open the door. Now we're on the verge of becoming paranoid.

At night, I am sleeping better
5/5

After my husband was arrested for assaulting me, I placed an order for two Cardinal Gates Door Guardians. I was looking for something challenging - or it is impossible - I'm looking for someone to come into my house and open the doors. It took me less than 15 minutes to install both of them. I put them up high so that my kids couldn't reach them, but given that they're all under the age of six, I'm not sure they'll be able to reach them. Even if I had placed them lower on the door frame, I don't think they would be able to operate them, regardless of how old or young they are. These are the results - incredibly well - It also helps me sleep better at night because I know I'm protected. I tried a few other security products on Amazon, including door jammers, but they didn't work for me. For added security, I intend to purchase a second Door Guardian lock to install on my outside garage door. br>br>Overall, they appear to be well-made, simple to install, and a good deal. They are unquestionably assisting me in getting a better night's sleep at home.

If your doors are surrounded by casings, proceed with caution
3/5

This product is best for doors with casings that are flush with the door surface, which isn't very common. If your door has a casing, you'll have to chisel out a large portion of the casement to install the door guardian with the strike touching your door. If you want to protect your home from intruders, cutting into your casement may not be a problem. Because the only holes are a few screw holes in the door frame that are covered by the door, this product is almost perfect for renters. When you leave, take it down so the landlord won't notice. Unless there's a problem with the casing. Thankfully, all I need this for is to keep my toddler from running away. As a result, I was able to install it flush with the casing, leaving a gap between the door and the strike, allowing you to open the door 1/2" before hitting the strike, but then being stopped. It's not ideal for preventing forced entry, but it's more than adequate for keeping kids out. br>br>The unit feels solid and well-made, and I expect it to last for a long time. Installation was simple, save for the casement issue. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> I've included a product image to demonstrate how this looks on a 3/4" casing on my door.

For a door that isn't up to snuff, add some security
4/5

After learning of an uptick in local door kick-ins, I was concerned. I finally decided to buy this item that had been sitting in my "saved for later" cart for more than a year. I installed the Door Guardian this afternoon after replacing all of the hinge and strikeplate screws with 3 1/2" deck screws. The slot allows you to determine exact placement and adjust depth before drilling the other holes, which makes installation very simple. My photographs depict how it appears when it is open as well as when it is closed. What I discovered: br>br> It takes more than a couple of glances to determine how secure your doors are. After replacing all of the screws, opening and closing the door several times, and removing a piece of trim to inspect the frame, I realized that this old door isn't just ugly, but also a piece of poorly-built furniture. I put in garbage that will need to be replaced sooner than I anticipated. In the meantime, the Door Guardian does a better job of holding the door closed than relying solely on the lockset. This will undoubtedly be reinstalled on the new door as well!.
