It's made of the same kind of wood you'd find at Ikea.
I can't say for sure, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable lifting anything heavier than 150 pounds.
An allen wrench and a screwdriver were included with the stool. To get the wood screws snug, I needed to use a better phillips head screwdriver than the one that came with the kit.
I'm not sure for sure, but I believe it's alder. Hardwood, without a doubt. There is no plywood or composite in this project.

br>They simply LOVE it and even though my daughter won't let me add a picture, I can tell you she is adorable standing in her tower helping her mommy. br>They did say it took a little time to put it together but it is very sturdy and she feels safe to step away for a second if need be. br>She had sent us the picture. They are so happy to have it and use it all the time and will continue to use it even as the baby grows because you can take out a few screws and it becomes a step stoolbr>Thank you Amazon br>He told me to just order it because he was sure it would cost more than your great pricebr>So they are so happy to have it and use it all the time and will continue to use it even as the baby grows because you can take out a few screws and it becomes a step.
The product had a very strong chemical odor when it was removed from the box. I was nauseated and had a headache from the smell, despite the fact that I am not usually sensitive to strong odors. The product description claims that it is nontoxic and safe for children, but the smell was far from nontoxic. We packed it up and returned it right away because I have concerns about the safety of whatever coating/finish was used on this product.
We almost bought a product from a friend who had it on another website for twice the price. We made the decision to give it a shot. We have not been let down! It was simple to put together and only required one person. Our child was enthralled by the entire process and was able to stand on the finished product, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
While I am cooking dinner, my toddler enjoys standing inside and assisting me with small tasks. He loves it so much that he even prefers to stand and eat his dinner on it! It's sturdy, has non-slip bottom grips, and the ability to remove the top and use it as a step stool in the future is fantastic!.
Several users of this stool have expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of pre-assembled components. holes were drilled for the Phillips-head screws that were provided. screws in the head Screwing these screws into the stool's frame is a simple and straightforward process, and pre-drilling is not required. Drilled holes are not required for this process. . . One issue I do have is how loose the stool step is after it has been assembled. This can be fixed with two extra screws from your toolbox or some small angle brackets on the bottom of the stool. The chair also wobbles slightly. br>br>Another issue with the chair is that it wobbles slightly. One of the legs is almost certainly too long or too short. It's not a big wobble, but it bothers me enough that I'm going to fix it later. br>br>Aside from that, the stool does its job. It is deserving of four stars rather than five or one.
For the money, this is a terrible deal. The wood was bumped and scraped when it arrived, but I figured it would get bumped and scraped over time anyway, so I started putting it together. To begin, the screws and bolts must be lined up perfectly, which is a difficult task that took about an hour to complete. The wood didn't match up, and the measurements were off by a long shot. The step is then put on as one of the final steps. The step screws are not predrilled, which is insecure and will split the wood, making it dangerous. It'll take another hour to disassemble it and another hour to put it back together. I'm extremely disappointed, and I'd like to reclaim that hour of my life.
The other comments about the step and attaching the top half of the stool to the bottom half of the stool are completely correct—- There is no pre-drilling of the holes. By screwing in the screws with the provided screwdriver, you must essentially create your own holes. It's not very sturdy once it's attached. I don't think it's safe for my child to be in there. I had hoped for more for the money. I don't understand why they didn't just predrill the holes for these attachments. Taking it all down and putting it back up would be far too much trouble. I'll have to come up with a way to make it more secure on my own. Because of this, I would not recommend it. I would not buy this product again.
The addition of this step stool to our kitchen is much appreciated. It was very simple to put together. This stool drew our baby's attention right away, and he was eager to climb. When I first tried to secure the wood screws with the tool provided, I was a little concerned; The screws on the top of the stool didn't appear to be fully securing the bottom section of the stool. I switched to a different phillips head screwdriver, which worked a lot better.
