I'm in love with them. In each case, when I install a new tube and tire on a shoe rim if it has a rubber rim strip, I use one of these Since I've been using these for seven or eight years, I suppose I should have a little experience. To ensure the drops of the rim are thoroughly cleaned, make sure to clean the drop center of the rim thoroughly. Brass wire wheels and drill motors are placed on a drill motor and a rag is used to clean the inside of the rim. There is no way a spike nibble will damage a tube when these rim strips are in place. They're super easy to install, stick like crazy, and won't dislodge from the rim. In the unfortunate event that a spoke were to break and the rim strip needed to be replaced, it would be tough to reuse the rim strip. In my opinion, these are the best out of the rest.
Unlike a conventional spoke, the nipples of the spoke sit down in a narrow channel. As a result, trimming each side to fit down in the channel was easy.
Designed to work as intended A few tips 1) peel the backing back slowly, and only as needed 2) keep it in the channel by pinching it like a taco and 3) keep the tape centered in the channel by not letting it hang out. (3) cut the corners of the form carefully at an angle at the point where the two forms come together.
I had to take a little time to install this. In the end, I wiped the interior of the rim clean with acetone after scrubbing it clean with a stainless steel scrubber. To get it centered, you have to work with the rim strip which is a bit stiff. In the end, I was able to work it out to re- It was still centered as I went around the rim, and the glue was intact. The ribbon might be easier to keep centered if you crease it, and/or mark the center of the strip with permanent marker. My strip filled the center of my rim and wrapped a little towards the edge, but did not go all the way to the corrugations, which I did not want to hide. With a wider rim, it would probably be much easier to do. After I applied a good amount of pressure with my finger, I managed to get the strip mounted in the well and well adhered around the spoke nipples of the wheel. In that case, it was simply overlapped and adhered to itself without leaving any marks. It did come out okay in the end, but we'll have to wait and see if there will be a problem.
The KTM 990s I used them on have not presented any problems. Although no rules say when it should be replaced, you can tell if the tires need to be changed when they are getting older. It is my experience that tires need to be replaced approximately every three years.
There is a thin layer of tape that goes around the rims of armor rims. While it is much more substantial than a similar thickness of rubber, it is still extremely flexible. When it is being installed, it keeps in place with adhesive. It is good for preventing damage to rims and tubes.
