Yes, it should be compatible with any automotive application.
I ran this by our engineers this morning, and they were pretty confident that it would work in that application, but they wanted to do some research because springs appear to come in a wide variety.
We've been using it for over a year and it's worked well on both large and small struts.
Yes, it is necessary to mount it. Wall, stand, and benchtop mounting are the most common options. Branick sells a stand and a benchtop kit, or you can build your own.

This is the one to get if you've been looking for something to work with aftermarket shocks on Amazon for a while. It works with coils with very close spacing, and the 6 arms on an X-frame can be offset. To get a nice even compression, use the Z axis. I was able to adjust springs rated at 700 pounds with ease, and the force required to compress the spring was a fraction of that required by traditional spring compressors. This appears to be shipped via Amazon Prime, as I received it the next day in Southern California.
If you decide to buy the branick model 7600 tool, have the problem fixed within 5 minutes and most important very safe, you will need to take the stand out of reach, as I was a mechanic for over 25 years.
This spring compressor is one of my favorites! This was purchased for use in my business. Way better than OTC's, and I'm a big fan of OTC's products. It comes fully assembled, with the exception of the top handles, which must be screwed in. Mine was affixed to the wall by me. It's incredibly simple to put together and use. The screw and bearing were the only things I greased. I'm sure I'll only use it ten times a year, but it'll be well worth the money.
A must-have for any shop that works with struts and springs. It's a lot safer than using old-fashioned hooks. The corkscrew design makes it simple to compress, and the spring tension helps with decompression.
Overall, this is a great product that is well-made in the United States. I've always disliked doing suspension work with those cheap Chinese tools because you never know when they're going to fail, but I'm much more confident with this tool. Purchasing this product is unquestionably less expensive than going to the hospital if I were injured. When compared to other tooling, you can definitely squeeze these through much tighter coils. I'm using it to adjust a 700lb spring on my lifted truck, and it works great and doesn't struggle at all.
I can't think of anything that could be done to make the design better. It is small and simple to operate. So far, there hasn't been a strut that this compressor couldn't use. Unlike our previous compressor, this one does not make you feel as if you are putting your life in danger every time you use it. The springs appear to be in a good place. The only issue we have is determining how high we should hang it. Tall men gripe about having to stoop to set up the strut. Short men complain that rotating the handle requires them to reach too high. It's impossible to please everyone.
This 7600 is unquestionably a monster. There haven't been any struts that couldn't be compressed like butter. I mostly use it on German vehicles and have had no issues with it.
