These crimpers are fantastic, and they're exactly what you'll need to install mc4 conectors. I can’t look in to the life of the jaws because I am only using them for my personal install, but they work well 100% of the time. The bad part. The assembly tools are mediocre, and I prefer my metal set. And the included connectors do not lock in with all of my standard mc4 gear; the tabs never spring out to secure the connection, so I would not recommend using them. I was going to need 70 or 80 anyway, so I had plenty of good ones on hand. Overall, I would buy this again; however, be aware that the assembly tools are flimsy and that the included connectors are only compatible with themselves.
It gets the job done. For what it is, the crimper is of acceptable quality. Most DIY solar installers will probably only do 100 crimps in its lifetime; I expect it to handle that fine, and if it doesn't, they'll be able to afford a replacement, especially since a professional version costs $600 and there doesn't appear to be anything in the middle. br>The MC4 connectors included with this kit are knockoffs, so I wouldn't use them. Every single one of the low-cost ones is. The original MC4s cost around $5 a pair and are made in Germany. Those do not appear to be the most cost-effective options.
Mc4 connectors are included in this kit. As a result, this is one of Amazon's top-rated kits. The tool is simple to use, and the ceimps are extremely secure. With this, I was able to extend the power of a solar panel. I was able to purchase thicker gauge wire for less than the cost of a premade line, allowing me to create my own custom sizes. br>br>The crimper has a good weight to it and crimps nicely. The zippered case will last for a long time, so it's a good investment.
In a previous review, I stated: The quality of the male MC4 connectors is poor. When mating with other brands of equipment (a solar combiner box or a 2-way switch), it appears that the tabs are either too short or not beveled enough; they don't click and pull out easily by hand. 1 MC4 connector (each of which works fine and correctly with the others). I believe they have a strong connection on my solar panels, but I'll have to double-check that and probably redo a few connectors on the other end. br>br>The crimper appears to be in good working order; it's a little difficult to get connectors into the place, but it appears to make strong connections. br>br> br>br>There were no instructions.
The kit is of good quality, but I would have given it five stars if it came with some instructions, such as which connectors are positive and which are negative.
Replaceable dies and a functional crimper - The Ideal crimper dies appear to be interchangeable. Handles are made of a cheap firm molded plastic that is very functional and will likely last a long time, though they may not be as comfortable as some others. My only real complaint was that the cross wrench was floating around in the zippered case, and one of the release "ears" had broken off. I sent a message to the seller asking for a replacement wrench, and we'll see what happens. Aside from that, it's a good product for occasional use - This is not a product that should be used on a regular basis for commercial purposes.
It takes like 30 seconds to put together a connector and so far they're holding great I've even used the wrench for other electrical connections because it makes them so nice and tight once I figured out which side goes where it's a piece of cake the best thing I bought to make my solar so much easier it takes like 30 seconds to put together a connector and so far they're holding great I've even used the wrench for other electrical connections because it makes them so nice and tight I've even used the wrench for.
Simply order connector sets and connect the terminals with solder. This, on the other hand, is ideal for those who enjoy frustration.
