Product Description

By entering your model number, you can make sure that this fits.
SmartSolar MPPT 100-Volt 20-Amp 48V: A solar charger collects energy from your solar panels and stores it in your batteries. SmartSolar maximizes this energy-harvesting by using the most up-to-date, fastest technology.
Even a severely depleted battery can be recharged using the SmartSolar charge controller. It can run on a battery voltage of 0 volts if the cells aren't permanently sulphated or otherwise damaged.
MPPT technology ensures that every drop of available power is rinsed out of your panels and harvested for storage by continuously monitoring the voltage and current output of your solar (PV) panels.
By pairing your SmartSolar MPPT charger with your smartphone or other device via VictronConnect, you can control and monitor the extensive features of your SmartSolar MPPT charger with built-in Bluetooth from anywhere, at any time.
Please seek the advice of a licensed professional and adhere to all applicable electrical codes during the installation process.

Questions & Answers

Is it possible to charge uphill with this charger? Do I need 52 volts from the solar panel just to start the charger if I have a 48 volt battery?

No, this charge controller is not capable of charging 'uphill.' To get more than 48V, you'd need a lot of panels connected in series. Genasun is a great option if you need to charge 'uphill.'

Is the 48v battery rating an indication that it requires a 48v battery bank or that it can operate at 48v? Is it possible to use it to charge a 12v bank?

It can handle up to 48 volts. As a result, 12-24-48.

Is it possible to use 12 volt batteries for storage and 12 volt, 24 volt, or 48 volt panels with this unit?

Yes, this controller can handle open-circuit voltages of up to 100 volts. If your panels are connected in series, you'll have a cell.

Selected User Reviews For Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT 100V 20 amp 12/24/48-Volt Solar Charge Controller (Bluetooth)

The charge controller is incredible
5/5

Victron is your best bet! I was considering a less expensive controller, but I'm glad I went with the Victron 48V. The Bluetooth app was simple to set up and provides a wealth of data. It's been ideal for controlling my solar panels so that a 48V motor can run. To run the controller, you'll need at least three 100W solar panels (the input voltage must be 5V higher than the battery voltage) - The combined output of the three panels is over 60 volts, which is more than enough to charge my lithium battery bank.

It's a bit pricey, but it's well worth it for all the features

Poor QC
3/5

The holes in the wire terminal screws do not match the holes in the holes. I know Victron makes high-quality products, but the six set screws on the outside of the housing do not line up with the holes. In my opinion, there is a lack of quality assurance. It could have been made after lunch on a Friday. On a $20 Chineseium, I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this. Victron does not have a controller. I'm exchanging it for a new one and will update my review as soon as I receive it. It was most likely a coincidence.

Victron gear is the best; this MPPT replaced a SmartSolar 75/15, and I was pleased to find that the dimensions were identical
5/5

I now have a 100/20, two 75/15s, and a 100/30 in my collection. All of them charge my lifepo4 builds without a hitch, and they really shine when connected to a smart shunt, BMV712, or Smart BatterySense via VE Smart Networking. br>br>The Victron ecosystem is absolutely fantastic. I've given away the other MPPTs I've bought over the years from various manufacturers because I've stopped caring about the price. There's far too much value to be concerned about the higher price.

The charge controller is incredible
5/5

Charge controllers have come a long way in the 30 years that I've been using them. I'm old school, and I wouldn't have ordered it if I knew I'd have to download an app to change the settings, but I absolutely love it! Dip switches are no longer an option for me. Even I found the app to be simple, and the settings are all well-organized, simple to understand, and change. Then there's the plethora of data you receive about your system's performance. I'm blown away by how well-thought-out this product is. This is a 100-dollar bill I have. Two 24 volt 200 watt panels are connected to a 20 charge controller, which is charging a lithium battery that powers a water pump.

After using a variety of low-cost and mid-priced products, this one performs as expected for the price
5/5

I decided to go with Victron because of the low cost of solar charge controllers for DIY solar generator projects. So far, everything seems to be going swimmingly. The product does exactly what it says on YouTube and other review sites. Although the Bluetooth range is limited, it suffices for my purposes. Without having to open my generator cover, I can assess battery details. The Smart Shunt and Smart Temperature Sense were seamlessly integrated. The online manual and FAQs were both comprehensive and easy to understand. I didn't like: The packaging and device appeared to be slightly used, despite the fact that I had paid for new. The built-in 20A fuse, for example, appeared to be in good condition but was still functional.

Very effective
5/5

For my experiment, I'll be using two 100W panels. Simply look at the power figure in the screenshot and make an educated guess as to whether or not I'm happy with my purchase. ) Man, this thing consistently squeezes 100% from my panels on a warm day, which is truly unbelievable. It was also simple to set up. br>br>The only drawback is that I discovered I can't use its load output because my load occasionally exceeds the 20 amp limit, triggering overload protection. However, that is entirely due to a math error I made while figuring out my experiment, so there is no blame to be placed on the solar controller. br>br>Tech support is unrated because I haven't had to deal with it yet and don't know how it works.

It's effective
4/5

This is what I use on a small pico hydro system, and it works great. It's a nice app that's simple to operate. 4 stars instead of 5 because the bluetooth connection, while good, limits the app's usefulness; it would be better on wifi, and because it's somewhat limited in what you can do with it, and limited configuration without purchasing a bunch of other victron equipment; however, if all you need is a plug and play small controller, this one is nice; it's super small, looks good, and works well.
