I considered a hoist designed for "pod" style because of the higher weight rating, but I actually put one in my garage because there's very little room. In general, I use the locks on my hoist all the time, so I don't really need them for supporting Third hands such as these are of great value and come in very handy at times. It's not a bad product, but I am not a fan of it with no weight on the top, so I can't use it with one hand with no weight on it. There is a rumor that the Harbor freight ones have a pin welded to the surface and the screw mechanism is milled for the pin, so that they can be used with one hand. I cannot verify this, but it would have been nice to have that feature included. Despite that, I give it a 5 star rating. These are serious mechanics tools, well-built and assemble easily. Packaging is bad, but it doesn't matter, they're a good trade tool.
This is a very well made, sturdy product. Due to the fact that I do not have a full rise lift, but a mid rise lift, I was able to shorten this support by cutting the top and shortening the threads. The task turned out to be fairly straightforward. We won't be using it to support 1500 pounds, but it will come in handy for additional support under mid rise lifts.
It looks like a very good design when you put it together. The stand has literally been abused by my son and I, who have used it to support more than it was supposed to, and it still works flawlessly when it's straight up and down. As I used high pressure grease on the screw, from my ball joint press, it seems to thread up and down without any issues with excessive pressure. It's a good stand, and if we ever need another one, we will buy another one like it.
Here's the update A second use of the air cylinder caused it to lock up. The volume is fine when it rises, but not when it falls.
If you want to get a spinning screw, you should stay away from the pump up Metal and paint are all there is to it. They look good for a shop, and the paint is fine as well. A quality Iphone can be made in China or a crude tool can be made in China The product is fair value for the money I paid. If I needed more I would buy the same product again. them, and both of them arrived ok, but the box had an odd funky aroma, so I threw it away as soon as I received it.
I have to line it because of its small size. Standing upright on this stand is very difficult due to its small base. I have to place it directly beneath whatever I intend to support it with (or else This screw handle spins with a lot of power because of the bearings under it. My fingers were rapped a couple of times trying to work it rapidly.
I looked like I had received a returned item that had not been properly packed when I opened the box and got the stand. The u-shaped piece on top does not seem to be level, but other than that it works as it should. However, the abuse in shipping may have been the cause of that. I do not like the top bearing as much as the older versions. You only have to pack some white grease onto it and you're ready.
I do some automotive work on the side for fun, and I work alone 95% of the time. If you have a lift and work alone, this is a must. Trying to get a bolt in used to be painstaking since I had to hold things up with my shoulders, head, you name it. Simply put it up and adjust its height to suit your needs. Historically, this stand will last a long time, it's well made, it's simple to assemble and detach, and it has a good price tag.
