Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use a pipe fitting with the exhaust fitting (the large red plastic cap)?

The exhaust female thread is 7/8" dia and 16 tpi, so it can't be used with a standard NPT fitting. br>A 7/8" ID pipe is in the middle of the 1/2 and 3/4" pipe sizes.

I tried pulling up on the red cap, but it won't budge, and I'm afraid it'll break. Why do they make things so complicated? It says to remove the red exhaust knob and discard it. [email protected] com?

The red "Cap" in the center of the pump, directly above the sight glass, serves solely as an exhaust vent. This vent is not used to add oil to the pump. If you fill through this vent, the foam element will become saturated, and the pump will spit a lot of oil while it is running. The confusion stems from the fact that the instructions state that the red oil plug must be removed before the pump can be filled. When looking at the unit, this oil plug is located next to the handle, opposite the vacuum ports, and it is not visible when looking at it. The Exhaust Valve, on the other hand, is highly visible and has the word "OIL" in large letters emblazoned on it. This is merely a warning that oil may leak from this port during operation, and that you should aim the unit so that the oil does not cause any damage. br>I made this error and was very concerned that I had destroyed the unit. Fortunately, aside from the mess, there were no negative consequences. If they changed the color of one of the plugs and/or replaced the word "OIL" with "EXHAUST," it would be a much better design.

Can you tell me what this pump's rated horsepower is? I'm looking for one that can easily maintain a vacuum of 11 pounds using a pressure gauge. Thanks! ?

On the side of my 8cfm pump, it says "1 HP," but I'm guessing this varies by CFM. br>In HG, I'm only allowed to pull a vac of "28" because of my elevation. 4HG" and I used my old pump to accomplish this. But now that I've got this new Pump, I'm able to pull "29." 3 HG" (I didn't think it could go any higher than 28.) 4hg tbh)br>So, in comparison to other pumps, I can assure you that this one has more vacuum power. br>However, I am unable to confirm that the pressure is "11lbs."

How long does this pump come with a warranty?

I wouldn't be concerned about having a problem in a year's time. I've been a long-time user of Robinair products and have never had to send anything in for warranty service. The 15500 vacuum pump was recently purchased. Robinair, as I previously stated, is the best in the refrigerant industry.

This item is made in China
3/5

Because Robin air is American made and I don't trust Chinese crap, I bought this instead of a Chinese made 12 CFM 1 horse power vacuum pump for the same price. I was disappointed to find a made in China sticker on the bottom of it.

If you aren't willing to throw these away, don't buy them

While this pump performs as expected, be aware that if even the tiniest component fails, you will be forced to discard the pump due to a lack of replacement parts. br>br>I purchased this pump and a 15310 single stage pump, both of which failed after about 100 hours or less of use due to the plastic blades, which are easy to remove but can't be replaced. I now have two pumps, both of which are relatively new and ineffective.

No Good
3/5

The vacuum did not work well right out of the box. The item was in good condition when it arrived. Provided oil was used to fill the container. Connected the CPS VG200 vacuum gauge to the inlet and powered it up. Attained a score of 27 out of a possible thirty-seven. In less than a minute, Hg and only 27. After 30 minutes, you get a score of 5. It's not a good idea to work in an air conditioning system.

If the item is new, it's a questionable purchase
3/5

I was surprised to receive a unit with oil in the pump a third of the way down the window below the fill line, and the detachable extension cord already plugged into the pump, with the remainder of the cord wrapped under the handle instead of being placed on top of styrofoam packaging in its slot. It appears to be a repackaged item, despite the fact that I paid for a new one. I'm going to return it. Surprisingly, it arrived in its original packaging and was shipped directly from Robinair.

Great pump for the money
5/5

Pump is fantastic. If your hose has a schraeder valve, you might need an adapter if you're using automotive R134 gauges. Several people have complained that the included adapter does not have a valve depressor for the ACME size, but it does for the older R12 size, and that it fills your work area with clouds of smoke, which it will if you overfill it. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER. Also, do not pour oil into the exhaust port, which is the large red knob labeled OIL. (Yes, this is bass ackwards) This is a fantastic pump; it quickly reduces vacuum, and I was reading maximum vacuum for my elevation. It was ready to add a small amount of oil after I had run it for 24 hours straight. It gets hot, but that's to be expected. Also, the noise level is about what you'd expect from an oil-lubbed compressor, which is significantly lower. If you're looking for a pump in this price range, this is the one to go with.

The product is well-made and runs smoothly
4/5

My old Robinair 15000 weighs about 40 pounds and walks around a lot while pumping, which I despise. This 15500 is extremely light and runs smoothly with no walk. If the Operating Manual wasn't so bad, I'd give it a five-star rating. Although the manual shows all of the external service parts, it never explains how the Exhaust Fitting works. Some users believe it's a plug for filling up the oil tank. Then there's a section that explains how to properly shut off the pump in three or more steps, but it never says when to turn off the power switch. br>br>Many users had expressed their dissatisfaction with the Operating Manual. I propose that the company demote those who are in charge of the Manual. br>br>Created: br>br>Revise: br>br>Revise: I can confirm that the pump does a great job after using it on three mini split system installations: There is no use of oil; Even though I only changed oil once during a month working on three units installation, it pulled down to 80 microns in less than 15 minutes on a tight connection using copper pipe instead of rubber hose. br>br>It just has a terrible, illegible User Manual.

This is an excellent pump
5/5

Despite the fact that it is made in China, this pump is excellent. It's for this reason that it's called Robinson. Follow the directions in the manual and warm up and cool down properly. It will work flawlessly if you follow the steps in the procedure. Although I can smell the oil from the top, it does not emit any oil vapor, as some claim. The only flaw I can find is that the manual instructs you to "remove and discard the exhaust plug from the exhaust fitting. " My exhaust filter had no plug inside it, but an inexperienced person might read that and decide to remove the entire exhaust filter and discard it. This is a possibility. If they did that, it would undoubtedly emit oil vapor. Anyway, with just a vacuum hose connected to my micron gauge, this little guy pumped down to 20 microns in no time. This is fantastic. When turned off, it doesn't hold vacuum, but that's what my Appion core removal tool is for. Before I turn off the pump, I need to disconnect the system from it.

It was a good price, it worked well, and it was QUIET
5/5

Instead of going with a cheaper model with similar specs, I went with a brand name. I've never had a pump before, but if you keep your car long enough, it will require a new compressor. This pump (including Freon and oil) is more expensive than one pump and refill. Setup was simple, quiet, and the vacuum pulled well. Because my gauges aren't the best, I didn't check the final vacuum, but the needle was essentially pegged at the highest vacuum level. The following was done during the repair: automobiles new compressor, all new seals on all components, complete flush on what was left, new suction/discharge hose, and new receiver drier). After an hour of sitting with no change in vacuum, add enough R134a to run the compressor and charge the system fully. Despite the new parts (all AC Delco), the problem persists. so twice what I could have paid) plus the tools I didn't have (flush kit, flush, this pump) cost half of what a dealer would have charged to simply replace the compressor. I replaced the pump oil after each use - After 45 minutes of use, the color changed from clear to yellow. Changes are simple to make; simply follow the provided instructions. This is a low-cost, low-maintenance option. Because I've only used it once, I can't comment on its durability. This pump is a lot quieter than the last one I borrowed.
