You will need some teflon tape (clockwise) as well as a 27mm socket wrench or a 1 and 1/16th-inch socket wrench to remove and replace This anode needs to be installed. Aside from being the drain plug, this is also the lubricator. It was used to drain water from your Suburban SW6D RV water heater every winter.
This is the same part number as the one shown in the installation and operation manual for the SW12DE (232767), so it is the correct part and matches what came with the SW12DE. There is also an aluminum anode rod designed to fit, part number 232768, from Suburban. For myself, magnesium is the way to go.
That is the same water heater I have in my 2010 Coleman Cheyenne camper. I recently replaced my anode rod with the same one.
That would seem to be the case. Dual heat is what I have.

This was also the case for many other reviewers. As soon as I received this package, I was very concerned since it had been already cut open at the bottom. It is noticeable that there are only a few reviews here with the same issue, pre-release Taking a look inside an opened package. My primary concern was that the actual suburban magnesium rod had been replaced with a cheaper version and was being sold as the suburban brand. Although I still do not know that for sure, I did test the magnesium rods. Many rods are sold in aluminum, and they don't work as well as magnesium rods. It turns out vinegar reacts with magnesium and bubbles compared to aluminum, with which it will not react. I did not return the rod because I think it was magnesium because it reacted so that's why I kept If this is the REAL "Suburban" store that so many are receiving opened packages, how disappointing is that?.
The rod is slightly distorted by a metal burr, making it impossible to fit it in the socket squarely (see pic). The return period was extended for the holidays, so I was fortunate to purchase it just after the return period had begun, so I had an opportunity to install it during the normal return period. This will be Amazon's last year as the company replaces Rob. It has never been easier to file a tax return. In the end, I didn't need to box it and took it to a UPS store.
It was ordered that the magnesium rod be used in the anode. Due to the fact that I wanted the rod to completely dissolve and cover my water heater, I did not order an extended life. Anode rods need to be replaced every year for the water heater to be protected. The rod I received contains stainless steel, and it was designed to last for a long time. It's a bad thing they did!.
I installed this in my Suburban SW6DE water heater mounted in my Trailmanor camper. A new one had taken the place of the old one. I am attaching a picture of an anode rod that has worn out.
This is an exact replacement for the water heater in the Suburban RV. The old one was one year old and completely worn out, including the water pump (we live in our RV full-time). As a result, I'm going to replace the anode rod every 6 to 8 months. The job was relatively simple, since I bought a socket that was 1 1/16 deep. The old anode rod was coming off while it was out so there was spent material in the hole that I felt when I stuck my finger in it. We flushed out the water heater one at a time by spraying water into the hole and letting it drain. This was a good water heater that worked well.
Glad I got it. A Suburban brand anode rod I had been using for a year was replaced with this product. There was no way I could have believed how much of the old rod had been sacrificed (see The new version). I was able to remove the old one without too much difficulty. If you are taking out the old rod, make sure to release some of the pressure using the bleed off valve. My 12 gallon water heater still had just under 8 or 9 gallons in the tank even after I had used the bleed off valve to drain a couple of gallons. My old rod flew away after I unscrewed it from the mooring and the weight of the water shot it out. Additionally, I am covered with white calcium type flakes after I have been showered with water. To ensure that no more flakes were coming out of the tank, I used the rinse wand to flush the tank a few times. A strip of Teflon tape wrapped around the new rod threads allowed it to go back in easily and leak-free. Maintain your water heater tank easily to extend its life span.
I installed it easily and it worked like a charm. Upon buying a used trailer, I found that the anode rod in the 9 year old water heater had not been changed. Since the one I had replaced was almost totally dissolved, it was definitely time to replace it. A water heater change provides the chance to clean out the water heater and, if necessary, change the Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve as well. It was dripping continuously, so I changed it at the same time. I bought all of the parts on Amazon, and all came quickly, were exactly what I expected, and worked as intended.
In the first place, please don't make the same mistake as I did and do not depressurize your system before you remove the old rod. The mud pretty much blew up in my face, coating me in sludge and getting stuck to my clothes and other vehicle nearby. That made me feel like a complete fool. It was all my fault and not the fault of the product. In any case, it is a perfect OEM part and perfect for the job. A new device is easy to install. I am planning on buying another one for next year when it is time to replace it again. I received the order before expected at a fair price.
