In spite of using a razor sharp knife, I was never able to remove "all" of it, but only a few small hard-to-reach fragments remained, but I gave up trying to remove it all, and simply I hope you are reading this, manufacturers. In our apartment, the hot water would only last about 10 minutes or so when we would take showers. We had a problem with the water system. I found that these heating elements are likely to be the culprit after some research online. I just had to rip out the old crusty ones and replace them, and I was done in no time at all. That's the end of the problem. With all the hot water available now, we don't need to boil any.
