It's just a big hitch ball here. Keep in mind that this nut has a 1 1/4" shank, which means you'll need a 1 7/8" socket to tighten it. The hitch instructions stated a distance of 400 feet. lbs. You'll need a large 3/4" drive torque wrench to torque the nut down to that level. You'll almost certainly need the assistance of a strong friend and/or a piece of pipe. I slammed a large adjustable on the flat of the ball skirt and let it ride up on a piece of 2x4 on the back of the truck while a friend and I applied force to the torque wrench's end. We just got there.
br>I chose it over another brand because the ball base has a couple of flats that can be wrenched on. Because I enjoy taking photographs, I took a few for the sake of others. It's supposed to be a Reese / Tow Ready, but there's no indication on the label that it is. CTP is inscribed on the top of the ball. I try to buy name-brand items in the hopes of getting a better deal. It appears to be ok, and it is most likely fine; however, I would like to see Reese's face printed somewhere.
For the money, this was a great deal. When we bought a trailer, we discovered that our hitch was too small to pull it, and it slammed. Fortunately, no one was hurt because the chains were crossed, which was an amateur error. When we inquired about it, the salesperson informed us that we were mistaken. We rushed up to the counter and placed our order. Trialer is now able to pull smoothly and safely. The sturdiness and weight distribution are both excellent.
Excellent product at a reasonable price with prompt delivery. Don't cut corners when it comes to trailer equipment. This was required because I was towing a 14,500-pound piece of equipment on a 3,500-pound trailer. I mounted it on a forged stinger rated at 20,000 pounds from Buyers Products, as well as a 20,000-pound receiver from Buyers Products. Everything is now secure and legal.
When I received it, there was no indication as to who made it. There was no Reese tag or stamp on it, and nothing in the mounting instructions mentioned Reese. Ensure that it is torqued! I don't want to lose such a large amount of weight. It's been about 8 months since I got it. I've hauled a lot of heavy loads with it (roughly 16,000 lbs water plus trailer weight) and it hasn't failed me yet (warping, bending, cracking). It has, however, corroded badly in a short period of time, and I suspect it is an off-brand with a lower-quality finishing process. Given the price, I suppose that's to be expected.
My 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500HD's Reese 63840 Class V Hitch Ball was simple to install and works perfectly. The Amazon price and delivery made it appealing, and one of the reasons for purchase was Reese's product quality. I'll keep ordering Reese Towing products from Amazon.
It's difficult to find the right words to describe a hitch ball. It's the right size and fits my trailer perfectly; it hasn't broken yet and, based on its appearance, I don't think it will. If I needed another, I'd buy one.
This is a heavy-duty hitch ball. To the hilt, this is a serious piece of equipment. I'll be ready to tow a 20,000-pound boat with this baby if I ever get one. "Can I get a 20-thousand-pound boat, please?" "br>This isn't going to happen in my lifetime, dadgumnit. br>Excellent item; if I could, I'd give it ten stars.
