I had been using a 1 7/8" ball because it was all I could find locally with a small enough shaft to fit in the hole on my lawn tractor (John Deere L110), but the trailer would occasionally slip off because it was the wrong size. This 2" ball with a small 3/4" shaft does the job perfectly, and Curt products have always served me well. Just keep in mind that the shaft is smaller and has a lower capacity than a standard class 3 hitch, so it's probably not what you want on your truck or car's draw bar.
My tow dolly is stored in the back shelter, but I must bring it around to the front when I need it. The dolly weighs 600 pounds, so pulling it by hand wasn't an option, and relying on others wasn't ideal either. So I made a mount for the riding lawnmower and attached the CURT 40003 ball to it. The CURT 40003 two-inch ball with a 3/4-inch shank was ideal.
It's gone in a matter of seconds. They're not made like they used to be. It appears that the chrome plating is only a few atoms thick. It's pitiful, and after a 10-minute wait, it's gone. mile tow of a 500-pound vehicle trailer with a pound capacity br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. The chrome is still flaking a little bit - In a few places, I was able to see through the copper as well. These aren't the best balls you'll ever find. And I'm not even using salt water on them! Consider how bad corrosion would be in a real-life marine setting. If it wasn't so cheap, I would have regretted buying it. Perhaps I'll come to regret it when I have to use an abrasive wheel to hack it off my hitch.
My Curt hitch mount accepts the CURT 40003 Chrome Trailer Hitch Ball without issue. It must be torqued to 160 foot pounds. lbs. To torque it that much, I slid it into the mount sideways and flattened the ball with my large crescent wrench, making sure the end of the wrench was touching the ground so I wouldn't have to hold it. Then I tightened the nut to 160 foot pounds of torque. lbs.
This is a good hitch ball with a 3/4-inch shank size. For most lawn mower style hitch plates, you'll need a couple of washers as spacers to keep the nut from threading onto the unthreaded shank portion. It has two flats on the lower part of the ball that you can use to tighten it.
For my Tractor, this was exactly what I required. I planned on moving my small utility trailer with the tractor. The 3/4-inch bolt was a good fit for the tractor. This is something I would have put on my truck without hesitation. This item appears to be of high quality.
Shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, Despite its unappealing appearance in the Amazon photo, this trailer ball is made of gleaming chrome. It's a trailer ball, br>br>it's a trailer ball, it's a trailer ball, it's a trailer ball, it's a trailer With your pipe wrench and big crescent wrench, you bolt it to your drawbar, then hook up your trailer. It's difficult to make a mistake as long as you have the correct ball (shank and ball size). br>br>Because I'm new to the trailer scene, I'm worried that someone could take my trailer off the ball, bolt it to their own drawbar, and drive away with it. Perhaps it's more difficult than I imagine, but if you're concerned about the same thing, you might want to look into an Euro-based solution. Instead, use a drawbar with a permanently welded-on ball.
This ball is outstanding. Because my receiver was 1 year old, I had to order a new one. I ordered a one-inch ball shank with a 25-hole pattern. However, the quality of the product was excellent, despite the fact that my part order had been incorrect.
