Selected User Reviews For Pilot Automotive Bully CR-017 LED Hitch Brake Light

Worked as expected, but make sure the seal is weatherproof
4/5

This is the second Pilot hitch brake light that I've purchased. This one replaces one that lasted two years before failing due to water leakage into the light body, which filled it to about 1/3 capacity. This component rusts and fails as a result of this cause. The light was installed on a Subaru Forester that had never been driven through deep water but had been exposed to the Florida weather for the previous two years. Given that it's entirely made of plastic and that it's been in place for the entire time, save for when it was removed to be replaced by the hitch to tow my small utility trailer, I'd say it's pretty impressive that it's lasted that long. When the first light failed, I took it apart to figure out what went wrong. There are two possible areas that I've discovered. The first was the seal where the wires enter the light's body, which had appeared to fail due to a broken corner piece. The second point of contention was the seam between the light body and the red lens. There was no way to seal it because it was friction fit. melted together, glued together, gasketing, or caulking I used clear silicone caulk to seal the wiring harness entry point before installing the new light I bought. To ensure a better watertight seal, I used the same sealant to seal the entire gap between the lens and the light body.

Plastic is the only material used
3/5

Blinking may be dangerously distracting, but it works fine. This is for my 1997 Ford Ranger, which I bought. The oval shape is attractive to me. It bears a passing resemblance to the Ford Blue Oval logo. The lighting works fine, but we'll have to see how long it lasts because it's all plastic. Advantages: br>br>
- Mounts for 1 1/4" and 2" receivers are included. br> On the 2" mount, there are three different hitch pin holes to account for different receiver pin locations.
- There is a running light (headlights on) and a brake light. (When both the turn signal and the brake light are turned on at the same time, this model blinks; when only the turn signal is turned on, it does not blink. ) )br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are some disadvantages to using this product.
- Plastic is the only material used. It wouldn't withstand being stepped on (e. g. , by a child). If you drag your receiver on a low driveway entrance or hit a steep departure angle somewhere, this light will snap like a twig and may be damaged by shopping carts, taps from other vehicles, and so on. It should withstand the elements and normal use, but it won't hold up to any kind of roughhousing.
- When both the turn signal and the brake light are activated at the same time, the vehicle blinks, which I find to be very distracting to following drivers because there is a blinking light on one side of the vehicle (the turn signal) and a blinking light on the hitch in the middle of the vehicle whenever the brakes are depressed. If the turn signal is still activated but the brake pedal is depressed, the blinking will stop. "What the hell is all that blinking about, and which way is he actually turning?" I see it as inspiriting. " questions from enraged motorists
- Because LEDs turn on and off much faster than my incandescent turn signal bulbs, blinking is out of sync with the turn signals (almost 180 degrees out). This was an unintentional wig-out. All of the blinking on the vehicle's back end is made even more confusing by wag.
- The colorful 4-inch blade is protected by a black sheath. If you want a clean blacked-out look, the pole wiring harness leaves about 5 inches of the wiring exposed. You'll need to wrap the rest of the wiring in black electrical tape or cover it with split loom to finish the job.
- Unless you use a locking hitch pin, it'll almost certainly be stolen. Things I Did to Improve the Lighting: br>br>
- I used heavy duty tape to wrap the 2" hitch mount in order for it to fit more snugly in the receiver.
- I cut the yellow (left turn/brake) and green (right turn/brake) wires, then soldered all four ends together so that the light no longer blinks when the brake pedal is depressed while the blinker is on (because the yellow and green inputs to the light now always receive a full time 12v signal when the brake is depressed). I now only have a running light and a brake light when in normal use. Only when the hazard lights are turned on and the brake pedal is depressed does it blink now. For the drivers behind me, that arrangement is much more understandable. br>br>Overall, it will perform the function, but it is inexpensive and lightweight. I paid twenty dollars for it, which is probably about seven dollars more than it's worth. It would be great if there were higher-quality oval lights available, made of more durable materials.

It has a nice appearance and performs admirably
5/5

For my trailer hitch, this is a good option. I've now placed three orders because the place where my girlfriend works has a rock barrier that I keep running into and breaking my light. I realize it's my fault. I've always replaced the light with this one because it looks great and works in the same way as my brake lights.

OKAY, JUST OKAY, JUST OKAY, JUST OKAY, J Regarding this light, I concur with all of the previous reviewers
3/5

It's made of two pieces of plastic, and the lights could be better organized and brighter, but it serves its purpose well. br>I have one on a Toyota Corolla, and it hits the ground when I drive into dips or inclined driveways, and it now needs to be replaced because the previous driveway destroyed it. It does break quite easily in these situations, but it is inexpensive enough to replace, so I plan to purchase another.

Awesome - bright - safe - easy - There isn't any doubt
5/5

Awesome. It adds a significant level of security. Installing is a breeze. 5 minutes at most The 1 1/4 version was used in this case. I had a nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right. and I don't mean in a negative way - ability to move from one side to the other - I figured I'd be able to hear it from inside the car, so I taped the seams with two pieces of tape and presto! Anti- rattle! You will not be disappointed if you purchase it.

When compared to other people's brightness, yours is lacking
3/5

In comparison to other products I've used, the brightness is lacking. I only purchased this because my hitch receiver is smaller. This is suitable for both small and large receivers. It comes with an adapter that fits both sizes. As I previously stated, the brightness is low due to the low number of bulbs.

Check out the customer feedback
3/5

The illumination isn't as bright as it was for some other buyers. It's a little sluggish, but it does the job. The unit is bright and blinks with turn signals, according to reviews (not the manufacturer), but that is not the case with mine; perhaps some do, and others don't. Good luck if you decide to purchase one. I'm hoping for a better day for you.

Everything works as it should, particularly the flashing mode while
4/5

Everything works as it should, especially the flashing mode when the turn signal is turned on and the brake is applied. It contains approximately 15-minutes of video. The housing contains 20 LEDs that provide very little light, particularly during the day. This is more visible at night than an incandescent hitch light, but not quite as bright.
