Questions & Answers
Yes, that is correct.
This light is a brake/tail light combination with a reverse light. Only the red light (brake/tail light) is controlled by the 4-pin harness. To make the center (reverse) led light work, you must splice the wire. I'm returning because I mistook this for a plug-and-play (4-pin harness only) item.
It's a warning light for the brakes. The led light is red, with a clear lens.
The white wire should be connected to the reverse light's wire. You'll need to splice into the wire from your car's wiring harness near where it enters the reverse light. Because the wire included with the LED Hitch Light isn't long enough, you'll need a short length of 18ga wire. To connect to the white wire, you must use the reverse light wire. Any other source of power will energise the white light, which will shine at the cars following you on the road.

This will work as a reverse light if you can splice wiring together, which is why I bought it. However, I was unable to do so and assumed that the 4 pin plug would allow the reverse light to function. This is not the case. It has a red outside led that illuminates when the brakes are applied or the lights are turned on. The reverse led, on the other hand, can only be used if it is connected to the reverse lights.
It's time for a revision. The light's casing isn't completely waterproof. Half of the lenses have dirty water in them. Condensation is visible on the other half of the wall. It appears to be sloppy. I wanted the extra light when reversing, so this product has both a red brake light and a white reverse light built into it. For the price, it provided more assistance than expected, and the plastic quality was as expected. All wires were connected to a 7pin plug after the flat pin connector was removed. If you already have a 7 pin option, you can just plug it in. There is no splicing required, and the receiver can be removed to be used in other ways.
I got this as a backup light and didn't realize it also had a red tail light! The room is light and airy.
