I ordered two and received two, neither of which were in their original retail packaging.
This item is "sized" to fit either a 1 7/8" or a 2" ball. OR - a ball that is two inches in diameter Although it may not appear to be a significant difference, it is. I'm using this cover on my 1 7/8" ball, and it's perfect. You should probably go up a size.
Bulk is simply retail without the packaging. It's retail if it can be sold in a store.

I've had two CURT hitches installed on two different vehicles, as well as CURT ball mounts, and they've all been excellent. That's why I bought it when I saw it was made by CURT. I know it's just a ball cover, but I like to keep it on my Cherokee for when I tow my utility trailer, which I do frequently. This was something I wanted for my wife, so I asked for it. I'm not going to get dirty. We had grease on our clothes that reached all the way to the back of the car. I used to wear one of these all the time, but they're no longer available. Things aren't made like they used to be, to be sure. The top ripped off like paper the first time I removed it. These things used to belong to me, and it's not like I mistreated them. Because of the suction, you must remove them slowly, but the older ones had a small hole in the top to aid removal. Regardless, this thing fell apart, and we'll chalk it up to a loss.
I saw a lot of negative reviews for this product and wanted to add my two cents. I live in Florida, and no matter what a product is made of, the sun, or in my case, the sun combined with salt air, destroys it almost every time. br>If this product tears after use, I'm guessing it was destroyed by the sun. Unless I'm using my receiver/ball, I keep it in my hitch. Some people complained that they couldn't get it off a 2" ball, especially if the ball was greased (which it should be). I punched a 1/8" hole just above the top of the ball to prevent a vacuum from forming when removing it. I don't have that problem, and the hole is pointed forward, making it impossible for anything to get in.
To protect your shins by covering a lubricated ball hitch so you don't get grease on them when you walk into it! If you mount it on a properly lubricated ball hitch, you should be fine. If you try to install it on a dry ball, it will most likely collapse, and if you do manage to get it on dry, you will almost certainly stretch/tear it removing it. Maintain the lubrication of your ball hitch with a small tube of white or lithium grease in your kit.
This is why I purchased the Curt hitch covers. To keep my tractor's greased 3 point hitch pivot balls safe. When I'm servicing the tractor or walking around, I wear my jeans. They're incredibly simple to set up. br>br> They won't come off if they're tight enough. They appear to have been included with the tractor and are more attractive and functional than a sandwich bag with a rubber band!.
If there's one thing this ball cover isn't, it's rocket science. It's a little difficult to get it out of a 2" ball, which is the only drawback. Instead of one universal size, perhaps they should make different sizes for different size balls.
I like it a lot because the ball tends to get dirty, and if I'm working in the back of the truck, it's very easy to get dirt on my pants, clothing, and so on. Plus, my kids climb in and out of the back of our suburban, and this takes away some of the pain if they bang their heads.
It simply will not accommodate 2" balls; It shouldn't, because it fits 1 7/8" balls perfectly, and expecting it to stretch 1/8" to fit a 2" ball is something that any rational Curt employee would avoid. Curt marketing must have reasoned that making it 2" would cost them customers who own 1 7/8" balls, but there aren't enough 1 7/8" ball owners to justify making both sizes. What cheapskate, after all, is going to return a $5 piece of vinyl? Based on this erroneous labeling and marketing, I've decided that Curt has far too many worthy competitors to keep them in the running for my future towing needs.
It's great that it's got a ball cover. Keeps any grease inside. br>The "but" is that I have a 1-bedroom apartment. 7/8" in diameter It's a tight fit. When it's on, you'll have to burp it. Taking it off is a little easier, but it must be peeled off to allow air to enter, similar to a plunger. The only issue I have is that if I use it while it is still attached to my car, it will be stolen. As a result, I simply wait until I remove it from the vehicle. It should be put away.
