Selected User Reviews For Clever Cover for FIC (1st Generation) Jack by Trailersphere Custom Electric Tongue Jack Cover for Trailer, RV, Camper, Chains Holder, Plug Protector, Sun and Waterproof (FIC Jack Cover)
I purchased this cover after Lippert issued a recall for their Smart Jack, citing the possibility of moisture becoming trapped under the touchpad, causing the jack to malfunction. Despite the fact that I never covered my original Smart Jack and it appeared to be in good working order, it was replaced as part of the recall for safety reasons. I wanted to protect my new Smart Jack from the elements, and I was concerned about moisture, so I bought this cover. Unfortunately, I discovered that this cover causes more harm than good to the Lippert Smart Jack. This cover ended up ruining my new Smart Jack and causing the very issue I was trying to avoid. When I went out to see how the cover held up in the rain the first time, I discovered that moisture had built up inside the cover and was sitting on the touchpad of my jack. Naturally, this was a cause for concern, given the Smart Jack's touchpad issues, which prompted the safety recall. Before replacing the cover over my jack, I took it off and let it air out completely. Every time it rained, I removed the cover to let it air out (which became quite a chore), but once it rained unexpectedly while I was away, and I couldn't get to my trailer until the following week. My brand-new jack had been ruined by this time. Condensation had built up beneath the cover, and moisture had formed beneath the jack's touchpad. To make matters worse, I discovered a broken zipper. Fortunately, Lippert sent me another Smart Jack, but this time I'm not going to use a cover. This is a nice-looking cover, but it's a bad fit for the Smart Jack, which is already susceptible to moisture.
The cover is extremely well-made and clever. But here's what irritates me: With the cover in place, there was a note stating that it was not safe to tow. We, like all campers, have to tow our trailer in the rain on occasion. One of the main reasons I purchased this Clever Cover was to protect the electric jack from the elements. What is the point of including this note from the manufacturer?.
A 5 gallon bucket was my previous method. It worked, but this is a lot better. br>br>I like that the 7pin is kept dry in a pocket. To make it easier to access, I tied a knot in the string. br>br>I'm also a fan of the chain hooks. This keeps it from blowing away by holding it in place. I wish the chain-holding strap had gone all the way over the top because I can see the weight of the chains eventually ripping the top off, but only time will tell. So far, it's holding up well, but we'll see how it holds up after six months in the sun. br>br>I haven't had any issues with my Jack being exposed to the elements, but they aren't IP rated, and the camera failed after only two years, so I could see the Jack failing. I've seen hand crank Jacks fail in less than five years, so mechanical issues are possible, and covering makes sense. br>br>This has a zipper for easy on/off, as well as what appears to be a lock location? The entire thing appears to be well-planned. The true long-term value will be demonstrated by durability. I'll add or remove stars as needed for true durability at a later date. br>br>Updated on 2/8/21: Still in good condition.
The clever cover was given to me as an early Father's Day present, and I adore it. One item that meets a number of my travel trailer requirements. br>br>I like how it's made specifically for my jack and doesn't appear to be an oversized bag. Everything is now organized, the chains are raised off the ground, the electrical plug is hidden in a small pouch out of the rain, and there is even a window around the controls so that everything is fully accessible while the jack is covered. I don't think I'll ever have to take it off. br>br>In conclusion, it looks great, is well-made, and is extremely useful.
I'd previously used an Amazon product to protect my 7-year-old son. When my trailer was outside (Fastway 82-), I used a pin connector to connect it to the trailer. 3315 7 Way Plug Cover) and it was a colossal failure. It allowed water to get into the connector pins, corroding the metal. When I was looking for a better solution, I came across the Clever Cover. The Clever Cover not only protects the electrical connector by keeping it upright and completely covered in a waterproof material, but it also keeps the chains off the trailer frame and protects the tongue jack. My tongue jack is a Forest River OEM jack, not one of the many brands for which the Clever Cover is custom made. When I contacted Trailershphere, the owner was extremely helpful in locating a cover that would fit my jack dimensions. br>br>As you can see in the photo, it fits perfectly, allowing you to operate the tongue jack while also allowing light to pass through the clear part of the cover. I've been using the Clever Cover for a while now, and it's a fantastic product that protects multiple components on the trailer tongue from rain and condensation. br>br>I would strongly recommend the product and company because of their outstanding customer service.
I really like it. I am not 100 sure someone really needs this for their RV, but I was looking at covers and someone pointed this one out. It was fantastic. It has a clear window so I don't have to take it off and on, the chain hooks are fantastic (no more dragging them over the tongue wearing out the finish), and it protects the 7pin plug, which I noticed was becoming rusty and grungy. If you're looking for a cover, I can't say enough good things about this one. It's exactly what you needed or didn't even realize you needed. but now you have it!.
