Questions & Answers

What makes this different from the Camco 40539?

The black one has a model number of 40539, while the white one has a model number of 40538. The one in white. The model numbers for each color are also different.

Is there a floor to the tank cover or is the bottom open for storing unused tanks outside?

There is no bottom or there is an open bottom. When the tanks are held in a rack with a bottom on travel trailers, this is commonly used as a replacement.

Is it necessary to assemble this cover?

It takes about 15 minutes to unpack and assemble the cover. It's easy to do and only requires a screwdriver and a pair of pliers.

Is this a cover that you could use at home? Is the bottom of the container sealed?

You could use it that way, but if you wanted to hook it up under the cover, you'd need a longer hose attachment. There isn't a bottom to it, either.

It's appealing and simple to put together
5/5

These clam shell pieces are simple to put together. On our 2019 Jayco Jay Flight 287BHS, they slid right over my two 20-pound LP tanks. If your camper is equipped with this feature, they will also fit over 30lb tanks. The top-mounted access door is functional. Two plastic tabs are located beneath the table. To attach the assembled covers to my camper's tongue, I used a short bungee cord. Because the tank covers do not come with anything to secure them for highway use, you will need to use a bungee or rope of some sort. On our 75-mile journey from our house to the campground, the covers never moved. My granddaughter "assisted" me, and assembly was so simple that she was able to do so while holding a cookie in one hand.

On a dual 30-pound bottle setup, this works fine
5/5

My tank cover was stolen while it was being stored, so I purchased this to replace it. I've got a two-bottle setup with each bottle weighing in at 30 pounds. I couldn't be more pleased. The bungee cord that wraps around the bottom and hooks into the tabs to keep it in place is the only thing I wish it had come with. I felt compelled to go out and purchase one. This cover came in a colossal box that was twice the size of what was required, which was way too much. You might want to use a different address if you're concerned about it being seen on your porch. When I first saw the container, it was about 48"x60"x12," and I thought I'd made a mistake. It will take around 15 minutes to put everything together. 30 minutes, depending on your skill level and the tools you have on hand; hardware and instructions are provided. It will be much easier to handle with a second person, as the first two or three nuts and bolts are quite difficult to handle.

As stated in the advertisement
5/5

Read the horror stories about people who received it without a lid or any hardware. I'm not sure how it gets away other than being ripped out. Hardware was kept in a bag that had been stapled shut and hot glued to the lid. The lid was hot-glued to the inside of one of the shell halves in a plastic bag. I had a hard time getting them to let go so I could use them. I'm not sure how he got away with it. Those who claim that the hardware pulls through the plastic are, in my opinion, making an "operator error. " The plastic shell isn't particularly thick, but it's adequate. If the nut is tightened too much, the screw head may be pulled through the plastic. However, because the nuts are NyLoc, they do not need to be overtightened. Simply tighten them to the point where the screw and nut cannot move, and you're done. It will not back down, which is why the nuts are used. There are no issues that I can see, but your results may vary.

I'm not sure where the "heavy duty" part comes into play
3/5

This cover is a huge letdown, but after hours of searching, I can't find anything better! The directions are completely inadequate. I understand the first part, which states that the screws should not be overtightened because the material is flimsy. The next section of the instructions fails miserably in its attempt to explain how to snap these two screws into the top lid. This will necessitate a great deal of pressure to accomplish, and it must not be done backwards or there will be a major issue. I'm not sure why this was designed this way, and I'm guessing the first few times I open this door, I'll lose the nuts that hold these screws together! There must be a million different ways to improve this design. Finally, there is no real manufactured plan for keeping the cover on the propane tanks while driving. On the front and back of the cover, there are two flimsy tiny holes on plastic "tabs," and the manufacturer recommends using small bungy cords to keep the cover in place. I'll be surprised if this thing lasts a year. I'm hoping that in the future, someone will make a good one.

Nothing is made in the same way that it used to be
3/5

When the weather warms up, I will be drilling holes around the bottom to put wing screws to hold it down and to be able to take it off easily. br>I only got this so I can insulate it so we can do more winter camping and help keep the propane regulator warm and stop it from freezing and they say to use a bungee cord to hold it down under your propane tanks tray, with two flimsy tabsbr>I only got this so I can insulate it.

The cover is overpriced for what you get, but it is still usable
4/5

It does the job of keeping your propane tanks safe. Camco could have included washers for a few cents more to prevent the hardware from tearing through the soft plastic around the hardware holes (use washers and don't overtighten). Other people have expressed their displeasure with the unsightly extra plastic nibs left over from the injection molding process. I used a razor knife to remove it, as well as any sharp edges from the manufacturing process. A little more attention to detail in the manufacturing process could bring the price of this plastic cover closer to its true value. All of the hardware was present because it had been hot glued to the inside with an excessive amount of hot glue, which I had to remove with a razor knife once more. If you don't secure it with a bungee, you might as well give it away on the side of the road.

It's OK
4/5

It gets the job done. It desperately needs a bungee or something similar to keep it in place, but it doesn't come with one. Aside from that, everything is fine. I'm sorry I didn't get a second soft cover. I think it'll be more trouble than it'll be worth. br>I'm selling my camper, and my soft cover was starting to show signs of wear, so I spruced it up with this. I don't have anything specific to complain about, but it's a letdown. It isn't solid, and it isn't held in place by a bungee. beneath the tank platform and at the bottom of the cover - I'm pretty sure it'd just vanish. br>I'm a huge fan of CAMCO products. There is a lot of it. This is the first of their products for which I did not give it a five-star rating.

If you're ever found on the side of the road, you'll understand why
4/5

Although it conceals the propane canister as intended, it appears that little thought was given to securing it to the trailer. For the time being, a mini bungee cord will have to suffice.
