THIS IS A GOOD ITEM TO BUY. Because my anxiety level was to the point that I was ready to spend $300 to purchase and install a brake controller on Uhaul because tracing the right wires etc under the dash and getting them right were absolute nightmares. As I wasn't eager to spend that much money, I did a little more research. I found a video on YouTube where someone had installed this pigtail with a Tekonsha controller in the exact same 2004 Chevy Tahoe I own. The video for the trailer Tekonsha brake controller install on a 2004 Tahoe can be found on YouTube, and for other gm products using the same As soon as I watched the video, I immediately searched for this on Amazon and ordered it. It was such a good decision. This was an entirely DIY installation, which took me less than 15 minutes, using a cordless drill, 2 screws, and 3 zip ties. This pigtail allowed me to tap into the factory trailer brake controller port under the dash (which I didn't know existed) and I saved over $200 and more than half a day of time before a trip. There is no way to overstate how much I like this product or how easy it is The absolute best deal I've ever seen.
As part of my recent trade-in of my old Dodge for a 2003 Silverado 2500HD, I kept my Tekonsha Primus brake controller to install As a result of this harness, the installation was a breeze, all I had to do was plug it into the brake controller and plug the other end into the factory location under the dash on the truck. It will be necessary to go into the underhood fuse box and remove the blank fuse from the "stud #1" location and install a 30 amp FMX max fuse to supply power to the trailer plug if you want to charge the camper or other trailer while it is being towed.
It worked as advertised, I just plugged it into my 2004 Duramax 3500. I suppose it defeats the purpose of the exercise nonetheless. There are about 12 inches between the plugs, so I'd estimate the cable length to be about 12 It should be about 36 inches in length so that mounting options are reasonable.
Connect your brake controller by yourself by using the We used it on our 2003 Silverado without a problem. The black plastic black cover that covers several plug-ins can be removed from under the dash (above the emergency brake). There are ports in the world. The large end of this connector is placed in one of them. in the small end of the wire into the rear of the controller and you're set. We mounted our brake controller to the right of the steering column with the length of the adapter sufficient to easily reach with the right hand of the driver. This was our first time installing a brake controller, and it couldn't have been easier. As you can see, it's in good shape but no formal packaging came from Amazon Warehouse. I would highly recommend it!.
A 2005 GMC Yukon is used in the accident. In 2014, I purchased a brand new Reese Brake Controller for a Ram 1500 that I have yet to install. I tried to attach it to my Yukon, and this is the adapter that was supposed to fit it. The plug that goes into the fuse box under the dash is tan at one end. I connected the other end of the flat black plug to the matching wires coming out of the controller using a wire cutter. I think some of the newer controllers have this plug. A really, really good adapter with really, really good quality. These wires have a slightly heavier gauge than the brake controller wires, and they are encased in a nice protective sheath. This fuse box fits perfectly in the GM fuse box.
There is no need for any modification. In the Yukon, it is connected straight to the trailer brake port in the junction box under the dashboard, just above and behind the E-brake. Using the brakes. Under the dash or above the pedals is a good location for the trailer brake control since the cable length is adequate. There are currently no pre-existing transmission lines in the Yukon There are no drilling ugly holes on the interior panels because the mounting holes are on the bottom lip of the dash.
Since the wires needed to be extended to where I wished to mount my brake controller, it was cheaper to buy this harness and cut the ends off rather than purchase lengths of wire that I would never again need. As for the wire covering, this harness is much nicer than any of the things that come with a brake controller by default. As a result, the controller comes with twice as much wiring as it did before this harness.
My 2003 Yukon XL was able to plug this in as soon as I figured out where it went (the fuse box to the left of the brake pedal). In my opinion, this was an extraordinary buy, and with only $12 on sale, it was very worth it from a budget perspective. Don't get me wrong, crimping isn't an impossible task, but you do need to ensure you crimp the right wires. If the installation had been free, I would have purchased the carefree installation even at the regular $20 price.
