Putty tape is a good option. It's made for Metal or Fiberglass Roofs, whereas Butyl Roofs are made for Rubber Roofs.
This was not the intent.

It's fantastic! It's more effective than caulk or putty, and there's no mess to clean up. It came in handy when I had to replace my camper's water heater. The "tape" was sufficient to cover the small opening on the camper's exterior. As an added bonus, the package includes 20 1" self-tapping screws. I didn't need any of the screws, so I just used the ones that came with the package. The tape is very sticky once it's applied, but it's easy to work with once it's in place. The tape adheres firmly to the surface and forms a watertight seal. There are no clumps or bunched globs of caulking around the heater's corners, and the finished product looks exactly like it did when it left the factory. This tape is also stretchy, so I was able to stretch it to get a perfect fit and finish.
It was a waste of money. This Camco putty from the installation kit is terrible. It's flimsy and lacking in moisture. utterly ineffective br>br>We made the mistake of purchasing two of these kits a few months ago when we were planning to update our motorhome, which included changing some of the vents, skylight, and outside marker lights to LED, which we had to put off for a few months due to the pandemic. br>br>When we first opened one of these packages earlier this month, we were struck by how dry and thin it is in comparison to the other brand we've been using from our local trailer/RV supply, which appears to be identical. It's even wrapped in what appears to be white crepe paper, but that brand is thicker, stickier, and pliable. It's also from a couple of years ago! We were under the impression that the Camco brand was the same. That is not the case. We're out the money we spent on this garbage because we bought it at the start of the pandemic and didn't use it until this month. Returning is no longer possible. Thankfully, we have some left over from the other brand we've been using, and we'll return to the trailer/RV supply for more. We have no idea what brand it is, but we'll find out soon!.
I've done a lot of old-school plumbing, so rolling a strip of putty is nothing new to me. This putty tape, on the other hand, has completely transformed my relationship with that can of putty! The putty is applied in a uniform width and thickness strip, making it ideal for installing vent fans, windows, and other similar items. Anything that passes through something you don't want to leak, such as a roof or a wall. I've used it on body patches on my old camping trailer, on the flanges of new roof vents, around vent pipes, etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. It's great stuff, and it's a lot easier to use than the old strip-rolling method!.
I bought the putty tape and used it to put in a ceiling vent in a cargo trailer. Between the vent flange and the roof, I placed this. There was enough of this to do one vent and still have some left over. Putty should be used on fiberglass and metal roofs, and buytl should be used on rubber roofs. Make sure you don't get the wrong one when ordering. I used nearly the entire caulk tube of dicor lap sealant after installing the roof vent, covering the flange edges and screw heads. There have been no leaks in my house.
Because the screw holes may not match, using putty tape makes for a neat installation. After cleaning up the residue on the roof from the previous fan, position the new fan and mark where it will be. Remove the fan and cover the old holes with putty tape placed just inside your markings. Place the fan in place and secure it with new screws. Then, after applying Dicor self-leveling sealant to the new screws and the edge of the fn shroud, you'll have a tidy installation.
When it came to installing a universal vent in my vintage travel trailer, tape came in handy. There was a lot of tape, in fact, there was more than enough. br>However, I was not a fan of the screws. When I tried to put the vent in place, I couldn't even get them started. I ended up using screws that I had on hand, which worked perfectly. So, while the screws are bad, the tape appears to be working. So far, there have been no leaks.
On March 22nd, 2021, I placed an order for a new fan and this kit. Today was the first day that the weather was pleasant enough for me to install my ceiling fan. On May 14th, 2021, to be exact. Since I ordered it, it's been sitting in a box in my house. I've previously worked with butyl tape, so I'm not unfamiliar with it. It was simple to open the packaging. br>br> Screws are kept separate from the rest of the package in their own bag. The tape was pliable and soft. It went on the fan without a hitch and was easily ripped to size. The paper backing was easily removed. br>br>I inserted the fan into its slot and firmly pressed it down. Under the fan, there is little to no tape oozing. I waited a minute and gently tugged on the fan, which was now stuck to the roof. br>br>The screws went in smoothly and quickly into the wooden frame beneath the fan. I finished tightening them by hand to a snug fit. br>br>I had no problems with this kit. I will definitely purchase this kit again if I ever need to replace a fan or perform a fresh installation, as this fan required.
But it's also useful for keeping items from falling off a shelf. I haven't tried removing it yet, so I'm not sure if the "gum" will remove cleanly or leave behind "debris" or grease marks. Fragile china, a small flower pot, a "word" plaque, poster, lights around the top of your room, etc. We purchased it to use while reinstalling the safety rail posts on our boat, which are leaking due to the screws. Will report on the product's success in preventing leaks in the future.
